Was heading northbound on A1 at about 7:05ish passed blythe services and saw what looked like an accident that had just happend on the s/b carrigeway , all i could see/make out was 2 artics on the hard shoulder with some cars behind them, a hi viz jacket covering something on the carriageway and about 3 of 4 guys in hi viz just standing in the carriageway. no emergency services were one the scene. anybody know what happened and if everyone was alright heard on radio it did not re-open till after lunch
passed loads of police/ambulances tearing down the m18 presumably to the accident and one passed me on the n/b a1 turned round at the m18 and went down the s/b side of A1, but did not see any fire engines…
I & many others were stuck in the Southbound queue AFTER the M18. I’d heard about this accident long before Bramham Park where the M1 splits from the A1. It said on the Radio that there had been an accident & Police where directing traffic about a 2mile queue {I’d been in a queue the morning before just because of roadworks} so I carried on.
Got to the M62 & still no mention of closure of A1 southbound. Carried onto M18, A1 still open S/B then it came up on Matrix Accident 40mph, We all moved slowly THEN we stop for over 2hrs until they opened up access to the N/B A1 & off we went.
Now, why didn’t they say it was going to be closed sooner? Why is it they pay thousands for Matrix systems & they don’t show the information sooner?. When we got turned around there must have been a mile or more of traffic IN front of us so they must have had to reverse to where they could come N/B.
i know accidents happen but come on give us the info sooner.
