Is there any book or anything you can buy that has guidelines to abnormal loads, when to use marker boards, escorts etc? Just be nice to have one to refer to whilst on the road.

Yeah that helps. Surely though there must be books that you can get from vosa or dvla with all the info in them?
Go on an appropriate DCPC course and you’ll possibly get some handy handouts.
