I know the answer to this question, I had all the abbatoir codes, I was an Ops. Manager in the meat industry until July this year.
Traceability is what you are after, there should be a trace back to the farm using the UK numbers and further back.
Meat inspection, veterinary inspection and if small, Environmental Health.
FSA are usually totally useless, even the three aforementioned agencies would confirm that!!!
The marking is similar to the one used in the dairy industry to track and trace milk products, the problem is that the EC stamp is supplied by the buyers, not the originating farm or dairy.
