Many many years ago on here I remember reading a story by a guy who was taking a trailer full of ammunition out to some Soviet bloc country if I remember correctly.
He broke down in some backwater out there, couldn’t get parts, and ended up abandoning the trailer and contents out there.
Does anyone remember this or know what happened in the end, I’ve often wondered how it turned out

I don’t know what happened to the load but the driver was last seen abseiling onto the balcony of the Iranian embassy

You would think so, but it seemed pretty legit as I remember, possibly with pictures?
It was around the same time as Neil’s reports from Iraq, which were excellent and detailed, maybe I’m mixing them up a bit in my head
Said driver was just today in the waiting room at Tesco chilled in Donny, telling all of his ammunition exploits.
He’s now working on agency, £20 p/h, just works 6 months year, spends the other 6 months living in the Caribbean
He loaded them in Bulgaria for Cyprus I think. He set fire to his own house and talked out of his ear.
Name of Ian with a DAF rings a bell

I can vaguely remember it from when I first joined the site.
Ian and a red Daf if I recall rightly. Was it IanyG?
My mind may be playing tricks on me but didn’t he get in a bit of “bother” at a customs check?
Again - may be remembering this wrong but wasn’t this saga featured in Truck & Driver or similar?
Edited to add - just looked and I was 27 when I joined this forum. Bloody 41 now. Time flies.

Well well, after all these years this raises its head again.
The guy was a bloke called Ian Young. He loaded a load of bullets for Cyprus and used his nice new DAF to pull the load. But it broke down and he had no R&M coverage. I remember this well because everyone was going ‘Ah, poor Ian’. Then when he got home, his house ‘burnt down’. So he got even bigger ‘Ahs’. Now I said at the time, I’m a cynical old bugger and one day I had had enough. So I raised some very genuine points which had everyone slating me on the forum and loads of people not brave enough to say anything in public sending me PMs supporting me. The whole episode stank. This was a guy that ran three trucks in Europe with no R&M in place and then, appparently, had no building insurance on his house. He ‘caused’ the fire that burnt his house down but instead of trying to put his burning curtains out, he ran out the house and left it to burn.
Looks like the’full of bullets’ bit was just a spelling mistake!
