AA Truck Map, Low bridge in Marlborough, Wilts?

My AA Close up map indicates a 13’ bridge on the A4 Marlborough High Street, but I went through there today Westbound and no such bridge exists at the point specified. Was wondering if anyone who has the first edition AA close up map (1.5 miles to 1 inch) could confirm that this is some kind of error?

There is only this one on the way out of town, a bridge that links the college across the road.

Oddly, it isn’t marked at all as a hazard so I assume it is beyond 16’ or whatever the standard unmarked clearance is. I saw other similar curtainsiders going the other way and I went under it at 14’ 8’’ but it didn’t fill me with confidence that it was unmarked, especially as there was supposed to be a low bridge somewhere in Marlborough.

As a side note, I was slightly irriated in Lechlade also, as there is a left turn that you cannot make with a long vehicle, even though there is nothing that tells you so until you are right on top of it. I was attempting to follow the A361.

I have a satnav, and I have it running, mainly just for time estimates and to pinpoint the final postcode, but I haven’t once followed it’s directions, I follow my own directions using the above mentioned AA map, as an experiment to see how unfriendly the satnav is for trucks (understandably I guess, as it is just an entry level car model).

That’s the first error I have found with the map so far. Though I could be mistaken. Anyone found any others?

Thanks for any replies.

Lived in that area for years, I can only remember the bridge you mention in Marlbrough as the only one there, don’t remember the height of it but anything I drove went under it, maybe I was just lucky    And as for Lechlade the turn left for Highworth can be done without a lot of trouble, halfpenny bridge maybe a problem to a low loader, don’t know never tried to drag one over there.

I found a discrepancy on my AA map. There was aparrently a 9’9’’ or so bridge in a village called Cromer in Herts. Being fairly local, I know there’s no such bridge. When I next went through I had a look around. It turns out that there’s a building which is overhanging the footpath at that height. Useful info but not quite comprehensive enough

I think the length limit in Lechlade goes back to the days before they had traffic lights on that junction when a wide sweep was needed , turning left towards Highworth.Dont think it was anything to do with the bridge over the Thames.Up until recentley there was a sign in Highworth warning of a 13 feet length limit  in Lechlade .
Methinks the powers that be got their ft and mtrs in a mucking fuddle when they put that sign up
As said already, no low bridge in Marlborough that ime aware of.

all he bridges in grantham seem to have diff hights to my aa map also :imp:
