as a lot of drivers know allready, average speed cameras to be installed from dunblane to inverness by summer 2014. do you think this will cause chaos? top traffic cop on radio scotland saying patrols will be increased when cameras start operating to enforce traffic laws. guess who will be fined the most, the big nasty truckers for not pulling in every 2 mile to let nice car drivers by.
It will be rolled out all over the country now you can get fined for lane hogging. The argument will be why are you in lane 2,3 when all traffic is limited to 50-60-70 whatever the road is. Soon there will bumper to bumper traffic In lane 1 because people will be ■■■■ scared off overtaking. I’m all for getting shot off the lane hoggers doing 50 on a motorway or with a clear stretch off road infront but soon it will become silly that’s why I’m happy to drop a few clicks instead off sitting In lane 2 for ages on the limiter well soon be made examples off.

what law is there against driving at the speed limit? i am not aware of any requirement to pull in although it may be nice of you to do so. there are signs saying allow overtaking but as far as i am concerned, i am allowing overtaking by staying on my side of the road

Road Traffic Act 1988: Careless, and inconsiderate, driving
If a person drives a motor vehicle on a road without due care and attention, or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road, he is guilty of an offence.
That bloody A9 north of Perth is bad enough as it is, and I think it will only get worse as we will see even more HGVs trundling along at 40 and frustrated car drivers (& the fish boys) taking even more overtaking chances, at least most of the trucks at present do 50 or more (apart from Tesco, Asda etc etc)
They want freight off the A9 and onto the train. They are going to try things like making trucks stick to the 40mph limit and then pulling you over for driving without consideration when you have a pile of cars stuck behind you. They sound like they are trying to make the A9 unviable for trucks on the hope that hauliers see the train as the best way to move freight.

i would love to see that go to court. being prosecuted for sticking to the speed limit. we are not classed as a slow moving vehicle so that would not apply to us

What was fresh juicy succulent Salmon will be off and stinky / mouldy by the time it leaves Scotland if the Railway companies are involved !
About time govt. saw sense and lifted the 40 on s/c to 50 …after all the new improved trucks and trailers we have nowadays at our disposal.

A copper tried to do me for it a few years ago.
When I quoted to him that I was doing the speed limit, as laid down by an act of Parliament, and that I would see him in court if he so wished, he soon backed down.
Ken.
One minute talk of upping the A9 limit to 50, the next enforcing the current one with average cameras. Talk about one extreme to the other.

Why do they feel the need to double police a road? Surely there should be less patrols!!
If you stick to the limit and leave enough room for the ‘need of speed’ racers to get back in after attempting to overtake you I can’t see what the issue is?
I personally pull in when I cause a queue behind me (approx 9-12 vehicles) because it’s considerate.
No delivery or goods are so desperately needed for me to take chances with my own or anyone else’s safety and it pays me more to drive like this.
And I can’t wait for supermarket train sidings to be built to accept deliveries!
Crack on!!!
Average speed cameras…I don’t know if that’s the answer…what I do know is that some companies insist that their drivers stick to the speed limits at all times.
The company I work for has satellite tracking…and use it. Other companies will be the same.
We need to share this road and it’s disappointing to find that while sticking to the 40mph limit and pulling in when to let vehicles pass, I get abuse from other truck drivers who want to break the law. I have pulled in to let them pass but they must think I just want to annoy them sticking to 40.
There is nothing I can do about me having to do 40mph when required.
So gents when another driver pulls in to let you passed, a toot to thank us will be appreciated, not a honk and the finger.
Just wishfull thinking…
I think I once saw trucks driving on to a train in Austria that would be better.

already are train sidings built for the supermarket train at inverness, aberdeen and somewhere further north (halkirk possibly), problem is there aint enough capicity on the railway line too let them put more containers on it.

there aint many who pull in now but always give the ones a wave that do.
saying that i think everyone on the a9 this week has been trialing the 40mph n if the driving i seen by cars, trucks and motorbikes is anything too go by then i’m not holding out much hope the idea reducing accidents
The railway is mostly single track between Birnam and Inverness,we could get a petition going to dual the railway as well.
On Tuesday I followed a long line of traffic after joining at Aviemore. Eventually caught up with a tipper from Marshalls of Tillicoutry he was sitting at 40 mph but there was a rigid fridge van further ahead. When we went into the roadworks at Drumochter the tipper went up to 50 in the contraflow and 90 when he came out the rigid went flat out. I eventually got past the Marshalls tipper. Right at the end of the dual the rigid went back to 40. Long Lane Deliveries, Bellshill. I followed him until Pitlochry / Ballinliug section where again he went back to flat out.
Why do these clowns play this game ?, at NO point did either attempt to pull over. Both drivers had blinkers on avoiding contact with anyone. He wasn’t very pleased when I went past then slowed to 50 in front of him.
The number of times cars attempted overtaking manoeuvres and nearly failed was unbelievable.
Every driver has a different outlook on the situation and I respect if they have to sit at the legal limit. Most of whom do pull over and let faster traffic pass. but these clowns who pick and chose when they run by the book are out of order. If it’s 40 do 40 if its 50 do 50 not 90km
On the odd occasion that i do have to go up there it is at night anyway and i will give a couple of left flashes to allow overtaking no matter what type of vehicle it is. I also use dual carriageways to let wagons pass safely by sticking to 50 or slowing down if i am approaching the end and want to let one pass first
