I remember a thread on here a while ago about the guy that lives in his car on the edge of the A9, can somebody point me to the thread or tell me the story about him, I think it was him that I passed the other day, a Merc I think, the guy gave me a wave as I passed him.
Yes thats him he lost everything in a garage deal and the merc was all he had left. think he has been there since last summer. The water pump on the merc packed in it was in the press so members of the inverness car club came to his aid and repaired the car so he wouldnt freeze over the winter.
I passed him on Friday, think he’s got a newer car now, an 06 plate Mercedes. I’ve spoken to him a few times over the years, he seems happy enough with his lot.
Yeah, think he has a beard, seen him a number of times on my way back down the road… does the car ever move?
he’s near house of Bruar (left hand side going south bound after house of bruar) now I swear he was higher up a year or so ago.
Always waves when a lorry passes

Two words…mentally ill. Poor guy, yes he looks happy and talks normally but for ■■■■’s sake this is NOT normal. Somebody should get up to him and sort him out.

Have you ever heard of Buddhists,in some cultures he would be
considered a wise man.
Just because you cannot live a life without stuff there is no need
to call him mentally ill.
I can fit everything I need in a backpack and regularly travel for
months on end.
The attachment to stuff is what makes you miserable.
Some of the happiest people I know have nothing and the less
stuff I have the happier I am.
Good luck to him I say.

This has been discussed before. He’s been offered endless help from Social Services, but he doesn’t want it. He wants to live in a car in a lay-by. So if that’s what he wants to do then he should be permitted to do it. He probably has more social interaction in the lay-by than he ever would in a nursing home.
Passed him this week on the way up , gave a wave and a cheery smile , he was sat in the car on my back way down, i was toying with stopping and dropping off a cpl of tins of food for him,but wasnt sure how he would react ,seems to be a proud fella and taking charity may not be his thing, he seems happy with his lot or has he just resigned himself to his future?? do feel a bit sorry for him though.

I has the Same thought about stopping a while ago And i always have food And tins i could have given him. But as you said i didnt want to hurt his pride. Has any one stopped And given him some food?. If so next time im up there i will stop
I always stop and have a chat with him, I was in there last week talking to him gave him a few tins of grub and a loaf of bread he’s nice friendly chap and accepts your donations with thanks and doesn’t feel offended, so stop and have a chat with him it makes his day.

Nice to hear Drive, some good Karma for you there.
I have left food for him and also a sleeping bag that I bought years ago in Finland, good down to about minus20. Never liked the thought of him sleeping in the car in sub-zero temps.I did even consider asking him up to mine at Christmas just so he could get a good feed and a clean-up but unfortunately never passed at a time when he was awake.
As jacksplat says,he’s not offended if stuff is left for him.
To call him mentally ill is a bit harsh. He’s a lovely old boy who loves to sit and have a blether.
agree he’s a nice old chap. and as of this weekend he also has a tent and a lounger to recline on.
I noticed he had a tent or 2 as I drove past him on Monday morning, gave me a wave too!

he may think the same about all the dizzy ■■■■■■■■ doing 15 hour shifts all week, you don’t need a big house and a load of money to be
happy with your lot
remember when we all where kids, them days we did’nt have xbox’s and ps4’s ,we went in the fields to play spotlight on a night and cycled miles through the day,we went to the swimming baths and spent 6 hours in there to get our moneys worth, made dens, ate stew and thought it was great.
ya born with nothing and ya leave with nothing
Just after a brief update, is the chap still there?
He was three weeks ago when I drove south but was daylight and was dark when coming nth last saturday so never noticed.
Yep! Still there on monday afternoon!
