Started to use A9 Perth to Inverness a few times lately, last time was late 80s before most of the towns were by passed and I remember there was quite a few cafes in these places, one I remember was called The frying Scotsman I think (or was it all a dream ) there are none now on the new road, so does anybody know if any of these are still open today, and if so where.

As far as I know, the Chefs Grill in Newtonmore is still going.
I don’t think Dalwhinnie is.
It’s quite a while since I’ve been up that way though, so things could have changed since then.
The garage in Dalwhinnie takes HGV’s and sells the odd pasty and sarnie think you have to phone ahead for fuel there seen a few in when I’ve passed
The Motor grill is a good stop just off the A9 at Ballinluig. I think the little cafe at Dalwhinnie is still open.
the cafe at balinluig is still there as is the bp garage next too that takes most fuel cards
only the petrol station at dalwhinnie that takes most fuel cards but the cafe is closed
the cafe at newtonmore is still open and 500 yrds further on is the esso garage which accepts most fuel cards
tore services on black isle is still open and accepts most fuel cards and has a cafe
the skiach services at evanton is still going also accepting most fuel cards and has a nice cafe too

agree with that point although Tore services is a little expensive…Bacon bap and Tea £3.50…Breakfast £6.75 IIRC. Food tastes good though.
The Chefs Grill in newtonmore, excellent place, use to use it quite a lot a few years ago. The owner had the hotel a bit further down the road and when you ordered your food it arrived by car from the kitchen of the Hotel.
This pic was taken middle june 04’ about 11pm at the Chefs Grill

The Frying Scotsman is in Bankfoot I think that you would be as well using the services at Broxden at Perth.Remember to look out for the scameras on the A9.
