anyone know of somewhere I can stop off for lunch ( a butty & a cuppa) along the A75 between Dumfries & Stranraer?
Im heading up to Stranraer tommorrow (thurs) morning to Cairnryan on my motorbike for the 16:30 larne ferry and Ill be on the A75 doing nought to naughty …sometime after noon so will be looking to fill my belly before arriving in Cairnryan. Hopefully i`ll be leaving here (nr the stockyard) around 8-9am going A1, A66, M6, A75 etc, fuelling at carlisle before finally getting to limavady tommorrow night.
I drive that road a lot, but never stop on it, so don’t know the quality.
You have a van which i think is pretty good in a big layby just after Dumfries, after the dual carriageway going up the brae, you hit a roundabout then its single carriageway its the third layby, is a big one you drive into.
You also have a small tea room on a layby after Creetown, but then again that far on your maybe as well keeping on going to Stranraer another 30mins away on a motorbike, which has cafes, chippy’s etc…
You might be better going off the A75. Annan has a Greggs and is bound to have a cafe on the main street, its 5mins from the A75 and with a motorbike parking easy enough. Dumfries itself down by the river front, the sands i think its called, it has cafes and stuff used to stop their with my grandparents when i was a kid.
Castle Douglas has a chippy, and poss a cafe as well, again a few minutes from the A75.
Sorry cant be of more help usually rushing when on the A75, so never really stop on it.
Only one I’ve ever stopped at was that little hut in the layby with the nice view out the back window, the coffee pot or the tea pot or something like that. It’s been a while since I was up there.
If you’re coming up the M6 first, come off at J44 and head down the A689 for about 800m. In the lay by on the left is a butty van called the Corrie Kitchen, it’s the dogs nuts!! Excellent food and a good price as well
