Anyone know what the A698 is like for artic Berwick all the way to hawick
Only thing I’d do different is switch onto B6250 at corn hill then back onto A698 at Kelso, you’ll save about 10 minutes and it’s a lot straighter. Good road wouldn’t think twice about going that route.
Seems to be a nice route, but at Cornhill On Tweed…I personally would go down the B6350 keeping the river tweed on ya right…instead of following the A698, it takes you into Kelso and its a bit of a cow in an artic… you’ll pick up the A698 again… Just take it easy when driving through Denholm…
Ah fond memories. I got stuck in a snow drift just past the Salutation Inn one winter…
It’s OK for an artic many of them have used that road successfully over the years.
Follows the river Tweed most of the way… flat running. a few corners. no bridges to go under. pick up the 68 for about a mile and a bit at Mount Hooly then back on to the road at the Ancrum turn. Long straight and some tight corners then into Denholm a few corners then in to Hawick. Hawicks a bit of a farce if it’s the old part of town.
Like Merc said stay on the south side of the river at Corn Hill, it saves you going through the main bit of Kelso, all the grain and cattle trucks go that way so it’s fine. It’ll take you about an hour from Berwick to Hawick.
Jeff…
Cheers thanks for the replies
