plans are in place to to make the a66 dual carriage way and carry out road junction improvments
We are proposing eight individual schemes along the 50 miles of the A66:
M6 junction 40 to Kemplay Bank
Penrith to Temple Sowerby
Temple Sowerby to Appleby
Appleby to Brough
Bowes Bypass
Cross Lanes to Rokeby
Stephen Bank to Carkin Moor
A1(M) junction 53 Scotch Corner
imagine when the works start it will cause years of roadworks and delays along the route

Bad enough with the convoy systems in place as it is. Why would you do dual carriageway works on both sides at the same time then put in a convoy system to drag everyone through at 10mph. Instead of doing one side at a time and put a contraflow system on one side and at least keep speed limit to say 40mph both ways.
It will be a nightmare of these proposed works go ahead causing untold misery for drivers using it whilst they go on, and by the time they are complete traffic will have increased by more than the capacity it will then have most likely and it probably won’t be any better than now.

Thst was all or most 2 way traffic when I started.
You can see the old road at that pub on e.bound side… .(.The Punch Bowl is it?, ) had some good nights in there before., then the old road continuing ‘underneath’ the w’nound side, imagine today’s traffic still using that.
Used to be murder going up Stainmore sat behind an old ERF or something.
There used to be a truckstop at Brough, a cafe at Kirkby Thore, and that farm house on the top on the w.bound side with the big lay by at the front of it, used to be a cafe, and obviously got business from both directions.
Christ I feel old.
