Hello, taking C + E to Barnsley from Manchester area is A628 a decent road to take ?
Just remember the low bridge at Penistone, think it’s about 13’ 6’’ . To avoid it turn left (eastbd) about 300yrds before bridge via signed diversion route which puts you onto A629, to re-access A628. If snowing, maybe use M62!
It’s not a bad road over Woodhead. What are you carrying? If it’s top heavy or a bit unstable I’d go the M62-M1 as there are a few tight bends on the Tintwisile side. If the load is secured right and won’t shift then go over wood head and enjoy the views
Also there is a 13 foot 6 bridge just as you past Penistone going up the hill to Hoylandswaine. If you are too high as you get to the traffic lights in Penistone next to the garage and the bridge in pub you take a left by the garage, follow the road up past the school on the right, stright upto the T junction, take a right A629 towards Oxspring then when you get to the first roundabout you take a left back into the A628.
Also the Dodworth by-pass is shut near Langdons depot as they’re improving a roundabout, the diversion is when you get to the roundabout where the Bluebell pub is take the 3rd exit follow the road over the level crossing around the left hand bend and all the way upto the mini island, take a left and stright after at the next island take the 2nd exit. This will bring you back into the A628 at the M1 junction 37. Just follow that road down into Barnsley then pal
Many thanks for advice.
