Drive this road all the time so can’t really believe that I sped past the speed camera northwich-bound just after the A5033 Macclesfield junction. Day dreaming, was doing 50, saw it at the last second but too late. Didn’t see a flash though, was in a rigid.
I hear conflicting stories about the cameras on this road, I read on here that they are notorious but a few drivers at our place say they go down there on the limiter all the time in the rigids and never been done. They are generally the types not to be taken that seriously though.
Can anyone offer me a straw to clutch onto or am I knackered?
Got 3 points at the very spot many years ago but did see the flash. Don’t know exactly how they tell the size of vehicle now but at the time I believe it was based on the area of the rear of the vehicle but now they have instantaneous number plate recognition to determine the GVW. Ain’t technology marvelous.
Ive had 3 points from that one, must say i was goin past it twice a day for 6 mths or so heading for Bruner Mond on the limiter then one day got flashed at 45.
Well i studied it in my mirror as i helplessly went past it and saw nowt, might have got lucky. Was in a 26 tonner. I usually cruise down there at 40 (usually as tippers and foreigners fly past) so i will be ■■■■■■ off with myself if i get a letter.
Collected three points at that one some years ago. Completely my own fault as I had been going past the thing about four times a week for ages before. Just not concentrating, I suppose.
I have heard that some cameras in Cheshire are now turned off so you might have a glimmer of hope.
Quinny:
IIRC, they have a Piezo sensor in the road to measure the amount of axles going over them, but not sure if this will help you though.
The trouble is, if 20 guys in rigids were to jump off a cliff, would you do it?
Don’t forget, a lot of drivers speak bullcrap, so don’t believe them unless you’ve witnessed it yourself.
Ken.
Piezo sensor my ■■■ they have a height sensor, over 3 meters and you get as flash.
not sure about the 3 metre bit the cam at the belfry A446 will flash a pick up and trailer thats empty at 2.45metre high and they sent a form twice .its got to be axle spacings as well

Thing to remember is that if an area has ,for example, 20 speed cameras only a few of them will be active at any one time .All cameras collect information all the time and based on that information depends on whether the local highways partnership makes the camera active ,that’s how it’s supposed to work but i suspect cost has more to with it .The camera you went through may not have been active if you didn’t see the flash and you would have seen it in your nearside mirror but it is still collecting the speed you went through it and if enough vehicles are registered as breaking the limit the camera will most likely be made active at the next rotation
Hiya don’t trust anything that people say about that stretch of road,
just stay at 40mph. i think its a type of trick been 4 lanes but not a duel
carridegway. i used to live about 4 miles away and it was alway’s a topic
just how many drivers got caught. a pal of mine had driven all his life
and managed to keep a clean licence but got done on the 556 a week
before he retired.
a firm from Runcon area had 17 cases of speeding lorries on that stretch of
road in a week not knowing the speed limit…just go steady.
