A5 Crick

Anyone know what happened on the A5 at Crick this morning (Friday). It was closed by the stobart yard. I heard a wagon ran into one of the parked ones near the RB at the bottom.
Anyone got news on the drivers? :frowning:

It was more than likely a foreign truck that was hit there. They park there for days. So we wouldn’t here about the result on here I think.

driver from Wales died at scene :frowning:

R.I.P drive.

I,m amazed that this doesn,t happen more often, you see every night drivers parked up in shallow lay bys, so close to the road that they have to pull their mirrors in :unamused: , apart from the fact that they can not possibly get a proper daily rest being thrown about every 2 mins, it is dangerous to themselves and others, which last night has been tragically proven.
I have got stick before on here when I have said that overnight parking in lay bys should be illegal, for reasons stated, and also opportunist truck crime that it attracts. You should remember that trampers have been DRIVEN (no pun :unamused: ) into lay bys only because 100s of town parks have been closed over the years, and the local councils, strongly influenced by the anti-truck brigade can not be arsed to provide SUITABLE alternatives, and are more than happy to see drivers parking in hazourdous ■■■■-stinking, rat infested, crime laden lay-bys, and we just go along with it :open_mouth: , so they have won :smiling_imp: …Me, I normally look for an estate, retail pk, where you can more often than not find some facilities, and is lit up, or if a lay by is a last resort, I park in one well off the road with a verge. My first rant of 2012, only sorry it was prompted by a tragedy.

Could not have put it into words any better, well said mate.

RIP to the driver and thoughts and prayers to his family.

Same here. Shallow laybys terrify me! Even having a 45 min break at night with lights on I find uncomfortable. I go over my hours rather than park in one.

I slept in that layby once and never again, too noisy and pitch black at night. A few of our drivers park there all the time but we have been having diesel nicked of late. Noticed 1 of ours in there when I passed at 1am. *shivers run down spine

Was just talking to my dad about it what with the driver being from our neck of the woods and he reckons there is a gypsy camp down the road, apparently diesel theft there is common.

Not necessarily gypsies mate. Rugby has it’s fair share of scumbags too. I lived there a few years ago…Can be bad, just like anywhere else in this poxy.country. :unamused: R.I.P. Driver.

could be other drivers aswell

rip

Sad news. RIP Driver.
I dont know the circumstances of this particular accident, but that is a lethal stretch of road. I run up and down it daily, in a car and a wagon.
I have lost count of the amount of wagons that fly up there on the limiter. I am overtaken by wagons almost every day, past the hidden junctions, past the truckstop, even down the slope before the truckstop.
It seems like some have a death wish. I dont suppose it matters that it is a 40 mph limit. And it isnt far to a dual carrigeway in either direction.
Is that few minutes you might save worth your life?

It used to be a 3 lane, some ■■■■■■■■ think it still is! :unamused:

Six days into New Year and another death :frowning: Be careful out there fellas.

Evening Ladies and Gents, I learned this afternoon, that it was one of our drivers. At this moment in time I,and all the other drivers have been left devestated. Luke had driven for N R Evans for 18 years and was a cool, laid back and funny guy. He was married with 2 teenage children. Luke will be sorely missed.
At this moment in time,we have no idea how/why it happened, police are still carrying out their investigation. I only hope that the driver whose vehicle was hit is alright.

RIP Luke. You were a good friend.

Pretty much agree with you, although this isn’t a dual carraigeway, personally I think they should do away with all laybys on busy dual carraigeways (except for emergency ones) and replace them with fewer but larger “aire” type parking areas. It enables safer and better parking and means less situation where vehicles are joining or leaving the carraigway especially slow moving trucks rejoining due to non existant slip roads on layby’s.

That’s a fine epitath Hexenhammer, I can’t really say more than what Robroy said in his last sentance.

Very sad news.

I would just like to add,i thought it was illegal to park at night in a shallow layby without lights ■■?
I know you can park without lights if the layby is seperated from the road by small narrow reservation, thats the whole point of some laybys having these seperation strips.
