Hi,
Anybody seen the speed cameras on the above road? do they even work??
Today went thru and they had a speed of 10mph with one lane closure for 5 miles but nobody seemed to be crawling at that speed… do they lower the speed setting on the camera??
I haven’t been through there this week and didn’t know the cameras were back up or that there were any road works, but there used to be a sign attached to the pole saying that the cameras were for testing purposes only.
They’ve been testing cameras there for a few years now.
the 10mph is for the site traffic.
they test the average speed cameras there.
As stated earlier, this road was used as a test road for average speed cameras although they where removed late last year.
At the moment they are simply laying down that grey loose chipping stuff… Obviously not enough of us have chips in windscreens.
Road to avoid at the moment as traffic backs right up from bromsgrove island,
Better off coming out the other side of Redditch and up gorcott hill.
cheers guys, maybe the poles for the cameras was all that remains…
it was busy so will avoid for now
As an aside, can a specs average speed camera differentiate between an artic & a car on a single carriageway road?

i would say no but the bod analysing the photos probably would.

What bod and what photos? SPECS cameras don’t take photos and bods don’t analyse them.
I used to live in Redditch and travel that road most days of the week to the college and a job in that direction i would often set my cruise in the car at well over 70 and never had a speeding ticket. It says on the first one that they are testing cameras, never known them to work in the years that they’ve been there.
You can go the opposite direction up Gorcutt hill to the M42 or before the cameras there is a slip road with a bridge over the dual carriageway, go straight over the island and theres a country lane that skips all the aggro in Bromsgrove, it brings you out about a mile from the Hilton next to a Harvester pub. I wouldnt recommend an artic going that route but most rigids wouldnt have a problem. I think Bakers? used to be down that road, I cant remember the name exactly. Nearer the end of the road there is a bridge and I cant quote the height restrictions.

To be honest, although most low rigids could get through the road, it’s not a road I would recommend for anything much bigger than a 7.5t unless it was necessary, it’s quite narrow in places.
The road is Hewell lane and the bridge height is 11’ 9".
Cutting through webheath and callow hill is also a option if your gonads are large and metallic
