A43 closure

Felt sorry for the Tossco double decker on the signed diversion, must be 16’ plus tall, unfortunately there’s a 15’ 3" bridge on the diversion

Couldn’t get close enough to warn him/her cos of other traffic, at least there was a pull in just before the bridge so he could stop and phone the boss.
Similar thing thing happened to me last year when the A5 was closed for resurfacing, followed the signed route only to be confronted with a 10’ bridge :smiling_imp: 14’ trailer ain’t gonna fit :open_mouth:
Who the flip sets up these routes? Are they some kind of moron released from a padded cell to wreak havoc on the road network? Are they the same people who plan loading bays and yards that you have to blindside reverse into while putting all the skips and bins in the very place that you need space to turn in?

Yes :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Where abouts is the A43 closed?

Yeah do feel sorry for the driver, the guy who set the signs up should be shot at dawn… Prat!

Just like the copper who said the burntout Decker would have to be recovered on a low loader :unamused:

I think thats the arched bridge that’s on the way to Bicester isn’t it?? He will have no chance and its on a bend as well if I remember right.

Good old Northamptonshire highways…if they had put a Road Closed Ahead sign on the roundabout at Brackley they could have sent the tall boys down the A422 to Banbury and onto the M40 that way…oh hang on,they would have to think about that a bit :open_mouth:

did the driver of the decker not pass any low bridge signs before he got to it?

How would you recover a burnt out trailer. Sure, you can chuck a spare set of wheels on it. But what of the hubs/airbags/chambers/brakes etc?

It’s standard practice to put a burnt out decker on a low loader and chop the roof to get it under 16 foot.

cieranc:
chop the roof to get it under 16 foot.

Would you not have to get a crane out to lift the roof off etc? Seems like quite a job.

Yep. But which professional recovery company doesn’t have a hiab or wrecker with top booms ?
It is quite a job. But what’s the alternative?

Photo above: Slip a strop through the locking bars on the back door (one door at a time), take the weight with the hiab and take the pins out of the hinges. That’s the doors off.
Strop under the rear of the roof, take the weight, chop the rear pillars (stihlsaw) by the back doors, level with top deck.
Strop the front, repeat as above.
Strop the centre, take the weight, chop the middle. Move roof forward 3" and drop it down so the roof site on the top deck.
Strap up, winch into low loader, back to base for tea and medals.

It wasn’t that burnt out.

If the axles are ok, champion, chuck some wheels on it and crack on!

Yes…it was never having the roof cut off or going on a low loader.
The point I’m trying to make is,if the people that run the roads have’nt got a clue…what chance have we got(re.a43 diversion)

Shouldnt a diversion have the same height/weight/length restrictions as the original route?
Or is that just another waiting room myth?

you would have thought so.i nearly got caught out in hull one night…a63 closed …no problem…come this way…but my trailer is too ■■■■■■ big,you inept moron.
why have you sent me this way
because the government pays my wages,so i don`t really have to account to anyone :smiling_imp:
