Strange thing is, when there was a fatal a bit further up towards Swindon near wind farm or whatever it’s called, that “u” turn was imediately shut. Despite it being a very rare and somewhat freakish accident. (Car plowed into back of lorry that had turned from glos direction back up towards blunsdon hill in the middle of the night.)

Getting in and out of Thamesdown is a right arse even in broad daylight and yet it’s still allowed with no proper restrictions of which direction you can exit or enter. I believe there is a sign as you exit thier yard saying turn left, but I’ve seen trucks ignore that.

Although road closers are frustrating they are an invetiable occupational hazard, frustration can be averted by having the ability to stop, get the map book out and look for an alternative route.

This doesnt help if your stuck in the trapped traffic or delivering close to the incident as local routes will be clogged up but often diverting early and getting creative can save a lot of stress. The M6 one this week was a long closure due to resurfacing and a fatality but when this occurs my delivery becomes very irrelevant in the scheme of things.

Perhaps we are becoming less empathic as a species and to selfish but one has to believe road closures are needed and the powers that be know what they are doing.

If one is caught in a hold up make sure to let the blue light brigade through but make it difficult for the orange light wombles as these buggers live to get the cones out.
