Very rare to see any trucker abide by d/c speed limits unless the truck is physically governed to 50. They do 40 on s/c because “I might get caught by a camera van and lose my licence” but d/cs are ok “because 10% + 2, innit!” . I’d happily wager that ~90% of the truckers on this very site use that way of thinking for their own driving too.
I’m not a religious 40mph man myself and i’m not approving of what the culprits here do, but I do think there is a genuinely greater risk of being caught out on an s/c. At least thats how I feel anyway, generally more nooks & crannies for scameras to tuck into and coppers knowing full well it’s easy pickings. Many drivers simply drive according to how likely they feel getting caught is. Amazing how as soon as they stuck up those flashing ‘Speed enforcement in operation’ signs on the M60/M62 roadworks everybody started obeying the limit, even before the SPECS got installed.
I think you’ve nailed it there mate
Got to say, I had a bit off luck a few weeks ago, at least nothing has come back yet, up by Leeds on the M62, were all the “managed motorway” is, the signs on the gantry were showing 50, but you know everyone was doing a bit more. A van was maybe 100 yds ahead give or take, on my lane, and I caught the reflection off the camera going off on the back window off the van , I adjusted my speed to 50 bloody quick

Your mention off the 62 reminded me
The cameras don’t work along any of that stretch, even when temp limit is displayed. They flash whenever they feel like it but no-one’s ever had a ticket.
DO NOT think you are ok on a dual carriageway at 56. i got done last year for 56 on the A40 heading out of monmouth towards ross at the Ganarew bridge.
When the letter came through the post i thought they were having a laugh… sadly 3 points and spondulies later i realised it was not a laugh.

There’s been plenty of scamera vans down our way in Devon & Cornwall lately on the DC bits of the A30 and A38.
I think they’re getting as much coin as possible ready for their Christmas ■■■■-ups etc.
mikeshe:
I was driving along the A36 in my car last night heading towards Warminster. There was a Waitrose lorry at the front followed by another truck then me. Seeing as it was Waitrose I expected that we would be doing 40mph, no problem with that. Turns out we were doing about 37mph. I was having a leisurely drive anyway, not in a rush.
Anyway, we get to some sections of road where there’s overtaking lanes, not dual carriageway so still a 40mph limit for the trucks. Well, Waitrose obviously doesn’t want to be overtaken by the other truck so floors it to 56mph. Then we come to a single carriageway again and we’re back down to 37mph. Next overtaking lane the same thing happens again. I went passed them to see it was a Waitrose trailer being pulled by Stobarts.
What I don’t understand is, if the limit is 40mph and you want to stick to it on single carriageways why go like hell on overtaking lanes when your limit is still 40mph, unless you’re a complete knob head? Oh and I’m not a Stobart knocker but after seeing the actions of this knob I could soon be.
so it ■■■■■■ you off when a stobart driver does the above ,
Were being tracked at all times,so the driver had no alternative too do anything other that what he did ,if not questions would of been asked when he got back too his depot

No mate, it doesn’t ■■■■ me off if it’s a Stobart driver or any other driver… what ■■■■■■ me off is when someone sticks to the speed limit on single carriageway then goes like ■■■■ off a shovel when there’s an overtaking lane but it’s STILL a 40mph limit. So he’s tracked at all times and had no alternative but breaking the speed limit did he■■? Try telling the cops or DVSA that one, they’ll be laughing up to Xmas.

They are having a clampdown due to a number of fatalities a few months ago along with complaints and observations that drivers have been giving it LARGE flat to the mat mainly on the down hill bits where they’ve caught some knocking 60.
It was announced on the news down there following a report of the death of the cyclist nr Lee Mill

Aye, we had 4 deaths within 2 weeks and on the same road, all within about 25 miles!
Only one involved a truck though, (the fella on the pushbike at Lee Mill) 1 suicide, (guy was being done for kiddy fiddling and drove up the arse of a trailer in a layby) and the other 2 probably related to excess speed.

How bizarre, still I wasn’t going to take the chance
I process all the sped camera tickets at our company (truck rental), and we have been snowed under lately with them. Some which have historically not triggered until 50mph are now coming through at 46. I am not a cynic, but it makes me wonder if this is a last revenue boost before the increase to 50 on single carriageways
