A34 Milton

I’ve been through the roadworks at Milton on the A34 the last couple of days and I notice that the signs leading up to them on both sides tell “Wide loads over 8ft” to keep left, which on the southbound side leads down the ramp, round the roundabout and back up again. Thing is - since when was over 8ft a wide load? That’s less than the width of most trucks. I’ve seen lots of trucks go over the bridge, probably confused by the signs and without reading the width limit signs. Never seen such stupid signage at roadworks before.

Got to agree that the signage ain’t the best. Why not put the standard six foot six restriction to remove all ambiguity?

Must admit though that since the first cluster@@@k I encountered by coming off at the slip I now stay on the main carriageway.

When it first started I went down the slip road as indicated.
After a while I couldn’t be arsed and just went in the right lane. There is no width problem for a normal truck (or there wasn’t last time I used it).

Quackers:

Ditto. Used the slip road once, lost a shedload of time. Never bothered since

Doesn’t it say 2.5m though.

Obviously doesn’t match up with 8 feet but at least gives us an excuse to go through.

I, like others it would seem, got off once. Never again.

Use the right hand track on approach - everybody else does (on their second trip)
