A34 HGV overtaking ban!

found this in the local paper, can see it working wonders to cut congestion on that stretch, NOT! :imp:

Ignore it like I do and the one on the 42 and the A14 no one to police it,crack on driver!!

All the lorries should bunch up and not let any cars on or off the A34
lane 2 will come to a standstill because mrs brown has stopped and is waiting for a gap so she can get to her sliproad
That will get the overtaking ban scrapped

I really struggle to see why the general public hate trucks…I just can’t see why they do, would would they? :unamused:

But I agree with Bubsy…trucks should just bunch up and prove our point that way.

That’ll work

500,000 trucks…23,000,000 cars…who causes the most congestion

OK, so what happens if we get a tractor or a crane on the road, or a wide/heavy load struggling along at 45? I sure as hell ain’t sitting behind them for mile after mile. Balls to them. Just let us get on with the ■■■■■■■ job.

These car drivers aren’t complaining about us moving over to lane 2 when they are struggling to merge in from the slip road. Most of them (mainly BMW/Audi drivers) at rush hour come thundering down the slip at 70 expecting it and wave gestures at you when you don’t/can’t.

Funny thing is most 7.5tonners are limited the same as the rest of us yet they can use it… a quid for every 7.5 tonner driver out there to sit in lane 2 all the way please :grimacing:

couldnt agree more rob the only thing to do is f**k em and not let em on or off the 34 and how many 7n half tonners die at the slightest pimple in the road = most of them so do alot of well loaded transits

Unfortuanatly, i can see this spreading to other areas. The M26 seems a likely candidate, mainly because so many trucks still have to get by each other no matter how long it takes. This just makes car drivers hate trucks even more than they do already. I usually drop back a bit and let the other bloke in.

They should just force all the cars onto the 420 and the A338!

Exactly.

Oh how I love to fish!! The one on the A34 is crazy as it’s on a steep bank and any trucker who thinks he cannot overtake a heavily laden truck and has to brake because of the “overtaking” ban then more fool him cos I for one won’t be doing it,it will be round him/her and back in a bit lively, but each to their own :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

It’s not as simple at that. If you’re empty then fine, but trouble is along there (at Ilsey) is that even other loaded trucks will pull out if they’re gaining on another, so what you end up with is the guy in lane 1 doing 30mph and the guy in lane 2 doing 31mph, then when they reach the top they sit side by side all the way to Oxford. I support more overtaking bans! Truckers are too think to work it out for themselves and can’t drive responsibly so bring it on.

I’d put my tu’ppenth worth on the “mail” Worldoftrans but the tossers have suspended me from posting. I called someone an ignorant ■■■■■■ for whining about lorries not moving over for them a couple of months back, mocked people who like local radio (around here it’s (zb)hite). The final straw was that I dared to post a comment not in support of the gay Pride event in oxford later this month. The Oxford Mail isn’t worth wiping your arse on it bends over backwards to support lentil knitters and college lecturers but hates truckers, bus drivers and cabbies.
That lorry driver Mandy King who said it was a good idea can talk; she drives a clapped out H reg Leyland Freighter tipper (metallic pink if anyone spots it around West Oxon) that can’t go above 50 unless going downhill and it’s only plated at 12ton gross. “Good if the drivers keep pace” my arse.
Sod it, I rarely go over 50 anyway

I’ve added my bit at the bottom, the A34 has to be one of the least policed roads i drive on other than VOSA sitting at Drayton. If it was policed then people wouldnt have to slam on their brakes, 14mph difference speed doesnt cause that, 20+ difference does, we all know that most people drive at 80+ with no worry about being caught. Being stuck behind 2 trucks overtaking when in your car is annoying but ffs i get held up more by badly phased traffic lights and stupid road designs than i do sitting behind trucks

They didn’t mention the coffin dodging National Trust members poodling along at 40 and then just veering off at Abingdon to go to Tescos without indicating. Bloody tractors are a nuisance along there; saw one a while back that (along with it’s driver) must’ve come from the Ark…
What happens if there’s an overtaking ban and Carters Steam Fair make their way up the A34? Are we expected to sit behind an overloaded Scammell Handyman or Pioneer crawling along at 20mph?

Although it is a daft idea, it certainly gives an excuse to toss it off and get paid another hour on a run!!!

I drive on the A14 on a regular basis, nobody takes any notice of the overtaking ban. It`s a complete waste of space, why have it if nobody polices it.

The concept pleases the (zb)wats at BRAKE and the Green party…

Oh great! Tesco didcot wagons are already mobile chicanes on the A34, what do they need anything else for?
