A34 crash

Theres been a few accidents/incidents around Berkshire/Oxon in the last few days, somebody ‘lost’ a 26t air-con unit on the M40 sb j9-8a a couple of days back, this one on the A34 (which was still closed when i came up at around midnight for repairs and hope both drivers turn out to be ok), and now this thamesvalley.police.uk/newse … ?id=224917 Thats where Verran Freight and a few others are based iirc…is Grove Garage on for them? Driving a truck for a living seems to be becoming more dangerous every day…more motors on the road,knob-head car drivers (not all of them), increased pressure to get the job done/park up etc etc etc. Is it only a matter of time before ‘they’ say that 56 is to fast and we will all be lining up behind the ‘Trolly Dollys’ at 50?

Agree, that will be the next move. The powers that be are obsessed with speed limits - cos it’s easy to fine folk that exceed them…

We’ll end up with a man with a red flag walking in front of us before we’re finished… :unamused:

Although it doesn’t appear to have caused this particular crash, I think that the next step will be to stop the tailgating. As that’s the cause of most of the big lorry v lorry crashes. A couple of lines painted on the road and a camera to record the ‘box’ this creates, more than one vehicle in the box (at normal speeds) and the one behind gets nicked, as they do in Germany

Because that’s just what we need more opportunities to lose our licences / wages / freedom

I drive mainly for Tesco and get forced to tailgate. Why you ask? because the majority of ■■■■■■■ that overtake me then pull back in trying to clean my windscreen is increasing on a daily basis.

Sick and tired of it, its not us choosing to do 50. Its only a matter of time before a Tesco lorry is involved in this type of crash.

Sorry for holding you all up.

Don’t apologise to appease the teararses.

What is needed for the A34 is a completely new road.

The problem with the A34 is that it is used by thousands of vehicles a day traveling North as well as thousands of vehicles hopping from one junction to the next. Many of these people don’t drive on busy roads often and i’ll bet some have never driven on a Motorway, these people aren’t used to traveling amongst heavy goods vehicles and fast traffic and while don’t cause accidents as such, their driving style can cause tailbacks which in turn lead to accidents.

I’ve traveled thousands of miles in the US and what strikes me is the logic in their road design, not only do they not place roundabouts with traffic lights at major junctions but they also keep thru traffic away from local traffic. In New Jersey i drove up to NYC from the Cape May Ferry along the Garden State Pky. Parts of this have a 2nd dual carriageway that runs along the same route, one takes the through traffic and the other takes local traffic. The Thru carriageway only has exits to the local one every 10 miles or so so there is no slow traffic or junction hopping traffic affecting the traffic that is heading straight through the area.

A 2nd road from the M4 to the M40 would take a vast amount of traffic off the A34 and in theory accidents would reduce due the traffic being mainly through traffic and not local dawdlers and farm traffic. Link roads between the 2 roads for major areas like Oxford, Didcot etc would take the traffic direct to the now local A34 carriageway for feeding the local junctions.

I know this would never happen but i see this as a better alternative to widening the current A34

If you don’t drive like a ■■■■■ you don’t lose your licence.
There’s plenty of drivers out there who need there licence revoking, but there more likely to end up as a statistic before that happens!

Nasty, is the Cartwright driver ok as well then ■■

I do sincerely hope a tesco wagon is involved in this type of crash, might make you guys & the powers that be realise that driving that slow can also be dangerous. If you don’t like people trying to clean your windscreen might I suggest complaining in numbers to management & get the limiters restored to what they should be…!!! :imp:

Typical attitude of the modern driver. How the hell could you wish any type of accident upon a fellow professional driver? I aren’t a massive fan of wagons that can’t go faster than 50 but it does make it slot easier to overtake them SAFELY in my opinion.

Warrens Driver is ok he got air lifted to hospital. I dont know about the others or what happened obviously his phone is not on.

And incase anyone spouts off about warrens drivers he has to be the most careful driver i know and the nicest bloke you’ll ever meet.

Don’t think from that pic, anyone was thinking ■■■■ THAT WARRENS DRIVER… Looks like the innocent party caught up in it from the pic.

Doing 50 rather than 56 is nothing to do with road safety in reality. It’s to cut the diesel bill down and to massage their green image… If it suddenly became cheaper to drive a wagon at 65mph, (no, I know it won’t), Tesco would find a way to persuade the powers that be to change the law and increase the legal limit…all in the name of a fat juicy profit for them…

The Culham accident involved a a driver that was known to quite a few guys here :frowning:

it creates work for us steering wheel attendants & causes you to pull out in front of cars doing twice your speed that aren’t looking any further than the bonnet of their car, it’s a hazard & the fact that Im not the only one cutting off tesco drivers says something…

Well on the A34 where this happened 50 is the limit so why would he need faster truck

Are you for real :unamused:

A clean licence is no good to a dead man, dead men do not earn any wages at all, dead men don’t have much freedom :bulb:

If you drive the lorry properly and maintain a safe following distance, you have nothing to fear :bulb:

If you want to drive around like a ■■■■ and sit up the arse of the lorry in front, I hope that your pathetic attitude doesn’t come back and bite you on the arse, but if it does, I’ll post an RIP on the thread in your honour

You could always slow down until it’s safe :unamused:

He’s not in too good a shape from all accounts…Broken ribs broken hip I think…Not sure about anything else From what I gather he’s going in for a second operation today…

10% of 50+2=57. Some of us have work to do…!

How can anyone claiming to be a professional driver, post such crap hoping Tesco drivers have an accident because their wagon’s are set to 50mph?
Most of the morons who whinge about them are really on less money and compensate it by having to be the fastest and to have the most tat on display in their windscreens.
