A22 & Bexhill

So, I’ve been sent down to Bexhill tomorrow and plotting the route I’ll be taking the M40/M25 then the A22 to Bexhill.

So what I’d like to know is; what sort of time will it take from the M25 down the A22 to Bexhill please? I make it about 45-50 miles, and as I’m trying to get into the habit of sticking to the speed limits (you know, having a clean licence is so nice) and all and what with being in an 18t fridge truck…

As I’m coming down from Coventry I expect it’ll take close on 4.5 hours to get all the way there, to Bexhill on Sea. After that I’ve got Brighton and two other drops on the way back up north, so suspect I shall be using all 10 hours driving time tomorrow. Hopefully the roads will be quite quiet.

After all, I am leaving the depot at 0230 :open_mouth: :unamused:

So am I deluding myself in the timings here, or would you recommend a different route, such as M45/M1/M25 and over that bridge thingy, Dartford way  :sunglasses:

Take the M23 instead of the A22, much better roads that way, the A22 is a PITA

I would have suggested the same, but major roadworks started on Handcross hill this week :frowning:

Seconded. The A22 is one of the worst A roads in the country imho. The 23 will chip a bit of time off

i live in Bexhill and as above would come down the 23 to Hove/Brighton and then along the 27 much quicker and less hastle

the a22 is a friking nightmare in places such as eastgrinstead, forest row and many other small villages through the Ashdown forest unless you want to play pooh sticks

Yes Handcross Hill is closed at nights, according to the signs. diversion runs through Handcross, down through Lower Beeding, then onto the A281 to Cowfold, then take a right at the second mini roundabout heading to Bolney & Haywards Heath. Then you can get back onto the A23 from the roundabout just after you go under the A23.
Saying that, it could well be opened up by the time you get there, otherwise it may make more sense to go A22 but it is a PITA.

OK Thanks for your suggestions

23 and 27…I used to run out of Newhaven to Birmingham way sometimes, only took the 22 when there was a closure on the 27/23…It can easily put 20 minutes on your running time! Pain in the arse road.
If the weather is poor, the 27 won`t be too bad

So is the A23 after the M23 and the A27, are they dual cabbageways then? :unamused:

What about taking the A21 down to Hastings then over to Bexhill that way? Google Maps reckons that 50mi for the A22, 52mi for the A21 and M23/A27 is 65mi?

Another vote for the A21 here, turn off onto the A2100 for Battle then take the A271, B2204, and finally the A269 which runs into Bexhill.

I bet the next poster gets it spot on

I live in battle by bexhill take M40 M25 and A21 the A22 is a horrible road and gurantee the 21 is quicker in a wagon

See, I was right

Seems M25 J5 A21 is closed until 5am, the slip road heading south. So I could head north and add an extra 8 miles to J4 and then turn there to come off that way or come off at J6, take the A25 along to the junction south of the M25 on the A21 and take that way…

However, there doesn’t seem to be anything on CCTV so I might chance it

Thanks everyone to all their help. I don’t often travel to your neck of the woods, this is only the third time in my decade of driving  :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Which way did you go then?

A21 way. Nicer route too. Fair bit of dc there too. 4h 15m to bexhill driving.

4hr 15m to the first drop, then onto Brighton then Redhill. RTU and just got in on time, thanks to help on another section of the forum too.

Because of the suggested run I think the regular driver doesn’t like the 40mph SC speed limits in that area, although the road between Bexhill and Brighton looked closer to North Wales this morning with rain, low clouds, green and tree lined hills either side

Until I saw the sea, before it was swallowed up by rain clouds :frowning:

But thanks all for your help
