The local paper is reporting that the A2 will be closed at weekends in October and November.
Coastbound for a six mile stretch from Brenley Corner (end of m2) as far as Canterbury the road will be closed at weekends from 8pm on Fridays until 6am on Mondays for 9 weeks. Due to start October 3rd and end December 1st.
There will be signs advising HGV drivers to switch off satnavs since local roads are unsuitable.
The planned HGV diversion to Dover will be A299 Thanet Way as far as Manston then A256 via the Eastry and Whitfield by passes. This is a 40 mile diversion.
For those choosing to use the M20 A20 A252 A28 route for the Canterbury area please remember that the railway bridge at Harrietsham on the A20 is 15’6" eastbound and 15’3" westbound. This would require overheight vehicles to continue on the M 20 to J9 and retrace the A20 back to Charing, or use the A28 from Ashford to Chilham and Canterbury.
It’s been closing overnight on irregular nights for the last couple of years like that already. - A bit like the current closures of the M25 between 25 & 27…
I’ve done more trips into Canterbury via Blean than via Harbledown during the period for which I speak, working mainly nights as I do…

I’m on days next week. That’s unusual for me to do an actual complete week on days.
Normally, I’m nights, and on odd days like Sunday, Monday, & Friday which happens to be a lot more convienent and cheaper to me, especially after I saw what I got deducted on my full week’s pay for last week (full week on nights) today…
I’m going back to odd shifts nights - put it that way!

I’d be more worried about this bridge entering Canterbury on the A28 at the far end…
