Just seen on the news that the government has scrapped the idea of charging a toll on the A14 upgrade.
Here, here. Now if they just buy the m6 toll, we be sorted.
Yea the M6 toll thats a wasted bit of Tarmac, although great for me as I’m allowed to use it.
The big thing about the A14 toll is there wouldn’t have been an alternative for hgv’s as they were looking at removing the flyover at Godmancester so traffic not using the toll road would have to go through Huntingdon. I think all those commuters thought they were going to get a truck free dual carraigeway and were all for it until they realised they’ll have no choice but to pay the toll.
And the people of Suffolk finally realised that the truck on the A14 are what keep many of them in work, as it was reported that something like 32,000 people rely directly on Felixstowe for employment.
And the government finally realised that Suffolk is pretty much full of people who normally vote for them. Oops.
Briliant , democracy in action, ok I’am but 1 voter, but I have been Emailing my MP about this issue regularly for the last year, getting repsonses from him and the department off transport. Just banging on about the error of their ways with reasoned argument, I knew eventually he’d get sick off it
Guess he’ll send me a christmas card again

I’m waiting for the day when the people off Suffolk realise that the A14 was built for trucks not cars, without Felixstowe why would Suffolk need an A14 without Felixstowe, you might aswell call it Norfolk

Probably for that little known settlement next to the A14 known as Ipswich, which even has it’s own, modest harbour too!
Incidently, I was “interviewed” by BBC Look East yesterday at the Oreell Crossing about this. Took about 15 minutes in all. I ended up saying 3 bloody words on the telly ffs!
Shame that’s been scrapped as there needs to be a decent alternative for when its closed.
On another note, the HS2 land would make a great alternative to the M6 if they put a road on it instead.

I did see somebody interviewed standing next to a Goaty Trucking truck, that must have been you then. I did wonder.
I can finally post something in the who’s seen who thread.

I don’t think the road building is being scrapped, just the tolls they wanted to charge for using it.
Eddie, you must face up to the fact that they put Norfolk next to Suffolk hoping a little bit of the Suffolks superiority would rub off… it failed miserably
They’ll find another way don’t think you’ve escaped anything.
