I was listening to the local radio in Ipswich today, and they stated that a huge boat is being moved from Northampton to Ipswich marina on Thursday and may cause considerable delays for traffic on the A14

Ok thanks all good i dont think it will be a problem Thank you
wtf is that all about
It’s a boat, it belongs on the water, unless it’s being delivered to a lake, put it back in the water and take it by river.
Have never understood why they move train carriages by road. Put it on a track ffs

Two questions here. Firstly this boat was built at Oundle and is too big to travel by river or canal due to restrictions on bridges and locks on any possible route to Ipswich.
(TBH Oundle was the wrong place to build it, there are many yacht builders with yards that would be more appropriate for this size of yacht)
Secondly the comment about train carriages is another issue. Many of old revived railways are not connected to the mainline rail network and have no choice, they have to transport by road. (Blame Mr Beeching back in the 60’s) And even if they are connected to the mainline network the carriages that need to be transported will not be suitable for our current high speed rail system.

Fairline yachts have a facility on the a605 could never work that one out
When Oundle Marine was set up the boats were not particularly big but still escortable. Then there came the demand for bigger boats but Oundle Marine couldn’t move to a shore base because their specially skilled craftsmen would all have to upsticks and that was not on.
