Don’t drive at 89
Yeah right, like anybody doesn’t drive to the limit most of the time. To accelerate out of it how much spare do you reckon I’d need?

That CF I think you’ll find is UK registered, there are 3 or 4 of them running out of FXT. Don’t know who owns them but I see them quite a bit.Ok, my mistake, it was dark blue wasn’t it?
I’m going by the picture on the BBC link in the OP. White 4 wheel Daf CF unit(with a blown out O/S/F tyre), with a china shipping box on its skelly. Seen them around FXT not blue

Like I said I dint rubber neck much cos a copper was stood monitoring the oncoming traffic looking for drivers gawping. I know the driver was sat in the cab of the front vehicle though and he had a distinctly Eastern European chernobyl victim face.

take your feet off the pedals and steer it to a stop , obviously leave the brakes alone and accelerating will just make it worse , same as you’d do in a skid situation .
Dazzler:
This one wasn’t down to tailgating for a change.
Mr pentalver could of been tailgating another truck that managed to avoid the stationery truck leaving him no chance of reacting in time to avoid hitting it himself.

And how about knocking cruise off, do you calmly switch it off with the switch, or do you panic and hit the brakes?

The truck UK registered, the heritage of its driver undefined, but your description holds a lot of truth

I hate that stretch of road in either direction, it’s not fit for purpose anymore, it needs upgrading with the amount of traffic that uses it!
You will be pleased to know
The government has committed up to £1.5 billion investment to improve the A14 between Cambridge and Huntingdon. This vital upgrade will relieve congestion, unlock growth and help to connect communities.
Proposals include a major new bypass to the south of Huntingdon, widening part of the existing A14 between Swavesey and Girton, widening part of the A14 Cambridge Northern Bypass, widening a section of the A1 between Brampton and Alconbury and demolition of the A14 viaduct at Huntingdon

So look forward to more congestion and roadworks in that area for the next 4-5years.
Hope this helps

In this case 5 years to take it down

Seems like every week there’s a serious truck crash on the A14 these daysNot surprising is it though.
It’s a long, extremely boring stretch of road to drive down (especially for the container drivers going the whole distance to Felixstowe). We have drivers responsible for 44t worth of moving weight, driving extremely comfortable & easy to drive modern lorries, driving along the road on cruise control basically not doing anything, bored out of their tree, daydreaming or absorbed by whatever they are doing/listening to in order to keep entertained. All in all, it’s a recipe for disaster - especially when you throw into the mix the crazy amount of hours & daft o’clock start times coupled with reduced rests.
Totally inevitable and i’m surprised their aren’t more.
It has roundabouts, junctions, is busy. Is it really that hard to drive down a road without knocking your cab off in a rear end shunt? The road isn’t to blame, it’s (in many cases, not read about this one) stupid truck drivers tailgating. If a driver can’t stay on the ball on a road like the A14 they probably shouldn’t be driving.

I hope your joking, never accelerate when a puncture occurs, simply hold steering wheel with both hands and bring her to a controlled stop, if fronty carefull of using the footbrake as she may ■■■■■■, the secondary brake is good for this situation, well it works for me.
Obviously if you can get off the carriageway or proceed to a safe stopping place, hazards and fog lights may help warn other traffic of your slow progress but its a dammed if you do dammed if you dont situation.
If the vehicle can’t be limped to a safer place, would a thoughtful driver not go and stand 300-400 yds behind, in a safe place, to try and give oncoming drivers an idea that there is a problem ahead. As said earlier, the truck in front of Pentalver saw his gap to pull out but Pentalver didn’t have a gap?
plans to upgrade it

Looking at the propsed route the Nimbys are going to be up in arms, sure they will pull the usual tricks of installing protected species on the propsed route, like the Great Breasted Newts and Lesser Spotted Rampant Rabbits.
Yep somewhere behind closed doors there is a secret cell of Ninja Nimbys planning all sorts of shenanigans to stop naughty noisey trucks coming through their back yard and spoiling their village activities, like fetes, country fairs, witch burnings and dogging adventures.

Trouble with some drivers, is they seem reluctant to pull over and either buy a tea/coffee, or make a tea/coffee, 5-10 min break whilst the kettle boils is enough to enliven the batteries, if indeed you are feeling overcome by boredom.

Had a front n/s blow out at 90k 2 years ago, M42. was meant to be a quick just nip to Solihull job, last of the day.
No drama , just scary. Take foot off accelerator and hold wheel steady, don’t fight but try to keep it straight and gentle breaking and end up on hard shoulder and await tyre fitter.
