Morning. I’m not one to moan as a rule. Folk have accidents all the time, and hopefully most walk away. I accept this as everyday hazard in this job, you deal with the traffic and move on.
In my wisdom last night, I foolishly decided that if the 14 was closed (from Cathorpe thru to J1 both ways, I was going east bound) that I would cut thru towards Husbands Bosworth then accross to welford and back on at J1. Done it many times. Obviously, in my error I hadn’t counted on most doing the same thing. Very soon, I found everyone else enjoying the countryside!!! There had been another accident on this route too. Very soon I found a young man in a uniform, he helpfully tells me I have to go this other way to avoid the incident, I check with him that it is ok for large vehicles, he says he has heard of no problems. Then i find the back of the next queue. Eventually we make it into Husbands Bosworth, this tiny village almost at breaking point with trucks and cars. Eventually I wiggle my way thru on to the 5199. Thats when it became apparent that the chaos I had just escaped was quite minor in comparrison to the poor sods that had come off the A14 west. Everything coming from the west was at a standstill because of the accident at Bosworth. At welford I spoke to a Norwich driver, he said he had queued on the 14 for over an hour only to drive into this. When I eventually found J1, I could see the wombles sending everyone off. The queue on the 14 was approx 5 miles at that point with traffic joining the whole time (2lanes of traffic, 5 miles long = 10 miles of single lane chaos).
I considered I was lucky, I hadn’t been involved in an accident, I weren’t coming A14 west!!! Just seems a shame that they can put random crap on matrix boards but not route advice. At least by diverting the WEST BOUND HGV’s it would of been less chaos.
I like how they point out that the Highways Agency were on hand to give out water to other motorists and actually show little if any compassion to the dead driver.
Well I would like to point out I sat w/b for 2.5hours and wasn’t offered any water!!! The A5199 was terrible due to the other accident - total time Huntingdon - Coventry -5hrs! However when all is said and done this is nothing compared to the actual accident itself. Thoughts to the family and RIP drive.

Hi there the driver who was sadly killed in the crash was my uncle.
I dont know much of what happened yet.

Gary, none of us know what we’ll face around the next corner, such sadness when we lose a fellow driver. So sorry to hear of yr loss.

Guess you didnt choose to go M1 south to J15 - turn left- A45 - rejoin A14 Thrapston then Mr Vain ?, FYI : That route is **permanently** hard signed all the way to J15 from j19>18 , advising "A14 East Alternative Route" and has been for years. That used to be the old way’ before the 14 was made, or, one went topside across the A47.
Seems can advise people which way to go - its up to them to choose . I find a paper map helps rather than relying on sat-nav’ as well.

Correct. I didn’t choose to go that way.
I chose to put myself on that route.
And, just so we are clear,the point I was making was regarding the west bound route.
