A13, is this 30 mph zone? Both ways?

I often go through the A13 towards the city and then back towards the East - Barking.
About a couple months ago 30 mph signs were installed on A13 and some cameras above them.
The 30 mph signs are on A13 right before the A1011 (Canning Town flyover), in fact right before Rathbone st, then there is that tunnel under A1020 and as you come out of the tunnel you see 40 mph sign.
Is this part of A13 an Average Speed Limit Zone?
And what about on the way back from the City and towards Barking, as you enter the tunnel under A1020 you see 30 mph sign, then no other sign, nowhere any camera to be seen, you exit the tunnel and proceed on the A13 onto the Canning Town flyover ( above A1011, Silvertown Way), there is a sign on the right hand side saying “Average Speed Limit Check” , but no sign of what speed limit it should be. Should I still drive 30 mph?
The next sign you see, going towards Barking after passing the Canning Town flyover is 50mph speed limit , but before this sign there are some sort of cameras as if they were measuring your average speed from the time you entered the tunnel under A1020, which had that 30 mph sign.
That is very confusing, I’m not sure what speed to drive and for how long, I usualy try to slow to around 30 mph both ways , but it looks like I’m the only one going that slow (30 mph)?
Any one has a clue?

It does drop down to a 30 limit both ways but there are no cameras static or average, depending on how busy it is i will exceed 30 down there and have never had a ticket.

It is a 30 limit there and although cameras are not yet active on that stretch for some reason even though the cameras seem to be in position and have been for some time. Maybe one day those cameras will be switched on and a few people will get caught out! I always do the 30 through there.

That’s been 30 by canning town for a couple of years now. Although the average speed cameras by the thatched house have only just gone live. One of ours got done for averaging 56 and a fork lift driver in Tate and Lyle got done too

That’s some fickin fork lift truck! :open_mouth: :grimacing:

It’s been 30mph in the tunnel, before Canning Town flyover, towards Barking, but this 30 mph sign before the flyover towards the city was installed about a couple of months ago.
Were your drivers done on their way towards the city or on the way towards Barking?
What fines did they get, any points?
If it was average speed camera, where was the entry camera and where was the exit camera?
I can’t see any exit camera on the way towards the city. and I can not see any entry camera on the way towards Barking

They both got done in the 50 limit at the start, by dagenham. Both heading into town. Both did speed awareness courses

Jay, so they did not get any points for speeding am I right?
Speed awareness course, lol, I can imagine this, it must have been fun, lol.
What was the cost, per head, of that speed awareness course, Jay?
I’m always careful on that stretch where the speed is 50 or 40 mph, but can locate those exit and entry cameras on that Canning Town flyover, where the speed , I guess, is supposed to be 30 mph, that’s at least what these signs say.

Courses were about £100. No points

Hey all

I was heading in to the city last night on the A13 doing 50mph just before Canning town and where the 30mph limit comes in to play.

I didn’t slow down at entering the 30 zone for around 45 meters due to traffic on my bumper, but noticed a set of specs, are these exit specs? What are the chances of my being caught doing around 45mph in the 30mph zone?

If you look at the picture, this is from Google Earth in 2012 and I can’t remember whether or not this site has two sets of specs or I just went through one set, the exit set just after the 30mph sign?

The distance between the specs in the above picture, is that enough to calculate my speed?

I ALWAYS stick to posted limits and this was just unfortunate

That’s the place I was referring to when opening this thread.
My sat nav beeps when approaching this camera and I went through this at just under 40 mph a few weeks ago, but no fine came through my letter box so far.
The cameras just before the 30 mph sign look to me like they are the exit cameras for the 50 mph zone and the cameras right after the 30 mph sign are the, what looks to me like, a start of the new 30 mph zone , but there are no exit cameras anywhere for this 30 mph zone.
The same is on your way back towards Barking, there is 30 mph sign just before entering the tunnel on A1261, right under Leamouth Road, which becomes A13 when you exit the tunnel, you then see an an info sign stating “average speed limit” on your right as you drive towards Barking, but no speed limit displayed and as you come down from the Canning Town flyover, the one above Silvertown Way, you see one set of cameras , then 50 mph sign and then another set of cameras ( which to me indicate you are now entering a 50 mph average speed limit zone.
I could be wrong, but that’s how I understand them.

I’m glad that I’m not the only one who seems to be confused. Coming the other way, it’s 30mph from the tunnel but other drivers just sit on your bumper or zip past at 50mph, but there are no signs indicating an increase until much further past Canning Town slip.

I am hoping that the first set are exit cameras and the second set are entry cameras however, as you’ve stated, there are no other specs past the second batch of cameras, maybe they are additional exit cameras to help with the load for the cars coming out of the 50 zone?

How long ago was your 40mph stint? I went through at around 45/46mph but quickly slowed 45 meters in… I’m still worried that me doing this speed between these cameras (15 meters or so) have got me a ticket and points!

That was about 3-4 weeks ago.
On the way towards the city I can see many cars, lorries, slowing down, not quite to 30 mph but thereabouts, on the way back on the other hand (towards Barking) it seems like I’m the only one trying to slow down, but still doing way above 30 mph, and every one seems to be sitting on my rear bumper trying to rush me.

I’ve always had the theory that sticking to the posted limit is the only way through specs and gatsos, I treat the inbound ones in the pic as a short 30 limit before roaring across the flyover and through the EIDT at 50ish coming out from the Slimehouse Link I’ll sail all the way at 50, the pair of specs past the Canning Town flyover straddle a 50mph sign. If they measure the distance between which seems unlikely then it’s got to be a 50mph limit surely.
