The long awaited dualling of the last nine miles of A11 from Barton Mills to Thetford was finally given the go-ahead last night.
Work could start as early as the end of this year.

That will bring the total dual carriageway mileage in Norfolk to approximately 70 miles. 32 miles on the A11 and the rest shared between A47 (37 miles) and A140 (2 Miles).
This works out to around 99% of the A11 in Norfolk is DC whilst 48% of the A47 is DC.

If you walk along both sides of both carriageways that’s about right.

720 yards, but dont expect to pass much while using it
And what about the A12 near GY and Gorleston? And A149 Caister by pass. Geez, we’re inundated with all these major roads.

I have driven nearly two hundred miles in a day around Norfolk and not seen a DC let alone driven on one. They are fairly scarce in places.
Don’t forget this bit!

Edit:
Already done sorry! I’m running out of ideas!
never mind the a11
the money should have been spent on the a14 instead

I thought the A14 was a dual carriageway, must be mistaken.

I think the A14 improvments were 10 times the cost of the A11, which is probably why that scheme was kept and the A14 was scrapped.
There was some minister on the local news saying that the A14 scheme would have been his entire roads budget.
Of course what will happen once the A11 is done more people will move to Norfolk, but have jobs in Cambridge or further and therefore add to the problems on the A14.

At least the A14 has a lane for tractors and one for the rest of the traffic. We have to share our roads with the tractors and the same when we venture along the A17.

I reckon you’d end up travelling slower on the A14 extra lane or not than the A17.
The A14 was a cheapskate road, it’s a main trunk route that was supposed to carry freight from Felixstowe to the Midlands, but it was made up of a load of existing roads which means you have to leave the main route to stay on it and it terminates in one of the most pathetic junctions imaginable. And then of course it has the M25 problem of to many junctions allowing local traffic to use it for short journeys which clogs it up even further.
