jack, phil is just like you barmey on moterbikes,i had 50cc came off it …thats me finnished with bikes

Well Keith 2 , a 50cc can do some damage if your not careful, it’s not the falling off that hurts, it’s when you hit the floor it hurts, it’s the same what ever size bike it is, a dog once knocked me off in Keighley on my TZ 250, I was almost stopped doing about 20mph, and broke my shoulder, and on the other side of the story, In was doing over 200mph at Woodbridge when the wind lifted my front wheel off the runway, I had to shut off but survived to ride another day.
It’s just the luck of the draw.
Do you remember the Phil who was in the workshop about the 1980s, he had a Suzuki 750 and rode like a bat out of hell, his brother used to race with me but cant remember there names, the last time I saw him he was working for a company in Leeds.
If you want to see me racing come to York Drag-way this Sunday 29th August, I’m racing my 250 TZ and my 750 Kawasaki and as long as the weather is good, It’ll be a good day, I rode my 250 Yamaha TZ at Silverstone a couple of weeks ago and was faster than many of the 750s and 1000 ds with superchargers, just to let them know who was “the boss of course”. :smiling_imp:  .Regards :-Jack

Keith 2 if that dont jog your memory you did a spell at walkers with me, Richard , Ken, and Singh

Wasnt there a Singh at Bradford garage about 1970 ■■. I remember they wanted my unit for service there one night and as Id struggled to find an m/t trailer I asked if I could leave it attached.Sure I was told just stick them over one of the long pits and well have it ready for the morning. They asked if any problems I said none on unit but rear o/s indicator on trailer was blown, as the stores were shut I asked if theyd stick some bulbs in cab or if they got bored they could change it.I got the usual mouthful of banter as I left. Next morning rolled into garage before night shift had finished to find wires and connecter blocks hanging from trailer. I think it was Tony …(surname eludes me) came over to tell me they had had a right time trying to get indicater to work and they still hadnt succeded. Theres me thought it was just the bulb blown says I, what blown bulb says Tony, the one I asked them to change says I. The look on their faces when they realised what I was saying was priceless, apparently the handover just said there was an indicater problem on the trailer, I beat a hasty retreat and left them to greet dayshift when they arrived…

The last time I saw Sing, he was working at Hill Hire, on the Euro Estate, he was one of the best mechanics Chapmans and A One had. :-Jack :sunglasses:

Thought so, I guessed it was you, well if he’s gone to Ozy he’s better off than being in this s***hole, I know a few friends out there and they love it, I usualy go to the US, been going for the past 15 years, I spent 3 months there from November to February this year, but I had to put my long pants back on to come home, it was the first time in 3 months but what a culture shock when I landed in Manchester, it was bloody cold,.Is he still riding over there in OZ, I’ve heard it’s even better doing it out there than here, If I wasn’t so bloody old I’d be gone tomorrow, but they dont want 70yr old immigrants any more, we’ll have to meet up some time and swill some beer,“just for medicinal purposes of course”, and leave some rubber on the road. Regards:-Jack Graham :smiling_imp:  :laughing:Ps I dont know about being 23 and puddled, I’m now 70 and still puddled. :imp: :smiling_imp:

hi Phil, can you remember, going with Shaun on the cab job to France
[/quote]
Yes,how could i forget, it was no good trying to keep up with Shaun when it came to drinking, christ i felt crap :frowning: :frowning: . Tried to sleep it off with my head hanging out of the window untill Shaun put the window up trapping my head in it

When i think back, working for A1 was probably the happiest time of my life, we had some good fun with the stunts we used to pull. Can you imagine doing it now with all the Health and safety rubbish we have to put up with . Well i suppose it keeps someone in a job

Do you remember when we had all them spares upstairs above the workshop ■■? . Someone wanted a back spring for something and we couldnt be arsed carrying it downstairs , so we decided to lower it out of the window on a rope. Terry Bentley pipes up " ill be the anchor man " . so he wrapped the rope round his waist, i put the spring on the window ledge and Ken and Woody also had a hold of the rope. Trouble was i shoved it out of the window and them 2 let go. It was like a cartoon with the rope disappearing fast with Terry still tied to the other end, he shot across the room with his club foot and only just stopped at the window as the spring hit the deck.
I dont think i ever laughed as much, he burnt his hands trying to grab the rope. It was a good job the rope was long enough as nobody had thought of that.
We would have all been sacked now

Another one for you, One of the continental lads ( I`m not saying who it was but he goes on here ) gave me an aerosol can of mace which was, and probably still is illegal in this country. I waited while John Taylor went to the toilet and i snook in and sprayed it then shut the door. He came charging out in a big rage with his eyes watereing, he never did find out who did it

a couple more i seem to have suddenly remembered from mid/late 80s off DLS;

■■? parkinson - ginger haired lad maybe late 30s, always a bit wound up, I remember a mate christening him ‘coiled spring’

trevor ■■? - thick set lad with a 'tash, had been a para (no, he actually had  ) and served in the falklands i.i.r.c

anybody place either of them?

the coiled spring would have been ian scuillik :imp: but a smashing guy,the para would have been trevor nussey in one of jacks stories and photo above

Ian Scollic was Peter’s younger brother, yes he was a bit highly strung, I dont remember him saying anything about being in the paras, and I did run with him quite often, I dont remember Trevor Nussey saying anything about being in the paras also, but he was an ex police man from the Leeds force, He did tell me that he got a commendation for saving a woman’s life somewhere in Leeds, she had fallen in the river and he went in in the freezing water and dragged her out. the driver who was in the paras was Dave Smith, he was a great guy to run with, but he had to have new hip joints put in because of the damage done jumping out of the aircraft.

Hi Keith 2 , I’m not telling you off, just correcting you slightly, after all were just chewing the fat over old mates, I’d like to meat Dave Smith again he’s a good guy to be with,:-Jack.
  :- Jack

sorry jack i thought trevor was the para…not too bad to be told off for once  …just learning how to do the smiles

bloody hell Phil, the tail with the rope,i forgot about that one,but now remember it plain as day ,have been in stitches just reading it

i remember been on road test with Kenny degeen in a f10,asked him to call at a shop for some ■■■■,i got out and walked in front of the truck to cross the road,i could hear him reving and coming forward i bit ,but Kenny was always joking about i am only 5foot 7 to start with and jumped up on the bumper to tell him to stop it,after been in the shop and got back in the truck, looked at kenny he was white asked him what’s up…reply of a lot of ■■■■■ he thought i went behind the truck and was going to pull out and turn around, oops :unamused: i will not do that again, nearley brown bread :frowning:

Jack,

Dave Smith was doing a bit of driving for T.Riley & Son on the containers, i think he did a bit of holiday relief for him. Rileys have there office in Bradford but run their trucks out of Freightliner Doncaster. I used to see him regularly but i haven`t done containers for a couple of years. He still looks a big imposing bloke except the hairs grey now.

Hi there Phil, that’s right, the last time I saw him was when I worked for Shipley Transport just before I retired, he was in Iveco Brighouse for some repairs and I was on the opposite side of the road loading with Bathroom equipment, we spoke for a short while, and he said he was doing some container work, but he was still the same Dave Smith, He might have been a bit imposing because he was a big guy, but that was because of his size and being in the Paras for so long, because some of those guys are big and hard, it’s part of the job, but to be fare you have to be hard and imposing to jump out of a bloody airplane even with a parachute.
But Dave really was a good guy to run with, and he’d do anything to help just like almost every driver at A One. By the way what are you doing driving, have all the mechanics gone on the road now, or is it because even your job has changed so much like driving and anything else in this country, you should have gone to Australia with your brother, there’s lots of jobs out there, and the weather’s better. :smiling_imp: :sunglasses:  :-Jack.
