Alright Keith,
Just my grandad Brian Regan, Peter Carter and Malcolm Hogg, don’t think he worked at A1 for that long, more time at Henry Long, Jack bell etc, it’s only come to light because I was on a DCPC on sat and a couple of old boys knew my grandad from the ‘good bradford haulier days’.

I started at a one in 76,my dad started there in 1944,but I think a lot of the Bradford lads did the rounds at the same firms, try to come to the a one reunion in Bradford 16 aug, keith

am still hear looking forward to reunion (JACK DO WE NO THE NUMMBERS YET ) let me no a,s,a,p

This topic has took me a couple of days to read through and i must say that it is the best read on Trucknet.Coincidently, it was A1 Transport which got me wanting to be a lorry driver as a child.During the 80’s, every sunday evening me,my brother and parents would catch the bus back home to Batley from Gildersome after visiting my grandparents, and i was always fascinated by the big red lorries as we drove past the A1 yard.I used to tell my parents when we rode past that i wanted to be a lorry driver when i grew up.

By the way, i knew a driver who said that he worked at A1 doing the continent, though he does tell a few tall tales. He’s called Mick Pitts or Geronimo is his nickname.Lives in Gildersome.

Hi Chris, this lot must have taken some reading,as for mick Pitts I have never heard of him, keith

Me too never heard of a mick Pitts, if he’d worked there we should have known him because both keith and myself were there for over 20 years each. :-Jack.

Bradford1978:
A bit of a long shot here, anyone remember Brian Regan who worked at A1,Henry Longs, Bells,Asquiths back in the 60s,70s,80s, big blokes from Bradford, and his sidekick Peter Carter?? Brian would have been about 78 now.

The name Brian Regan comes to mind, and yes I think he did come from Henry Longs, it would also be nice to be able to contact them all so we can all meet up again, but sadly I dont have any contact with any of them. :-Jack :frowning:

Hi Stuart, not for sure but about 20 to 26 said they’ll be there, but some have pulled out because of the usual holidays etc that usually brings the number down, but my guess is about 20/26, I just have to phone round to remind them again next week, but if anyone can tell the ones they know even families of drivers it will make it easier, but give me another 10 days and I should know more, also thanks for your help Stuart your the key man on this project since I don’t live down there any more. :-Jack

Good afternoon men from a warm and sunny Blackpool [ makes a change ] Someone told me years ago that when new Rolls Royces were very hard to come by JMR had a standing order for two a year. These cars were never used by him but sold on straight away for a decent profit. He certainly had a talent for making money didn’t he?

Hi Maxhager, last time I was in his rolls was in may 97,day I got married again, this was a dark blue one,but he asked robin to drive it,i think he was I bit to old to do it him self, when I was 17 I got 3 month in hmp flockton nick my dad phoned him up for a lift back and was going to pick me up in the roller, but my dad had the paper work to get me out,so sent a van for me,i think when bosses do that for you that’s why you work hard for them, keith

See Maurice Eccles [Bradford wool rollers boss] died recently, dont expect anyone will shed tears over him as he was a horrible little t**t. Good ridance in my book !!!

would have liked to been the spider on the wall when you put him on is arse    keith

Ay up Keith, Maurice Eccles was a horrible little git who tried to show Hutchinson how clever he was at saving money, trouble was that he saved cash by knocking hours off your time sheets. I did a Bradford to Weymouth on a Sunday and even though you were guaranteed 10 hours he would only let you have 8. I decided enough is enough and put him at the top of my list !!! Almost got him when he came out to check a load bales on my wagon bound for Hawick, I moved a bale, then intended to roll it off onto him but the traffic office clerk [Charlie ] came out so my chance had gone. Never got another chance, but one night after I left I went to Fitzwilliam St with my doggy it was pitch black I hid at the side of the diesel tanks and jumped in front of him while Spike got involved in the tag match, Eccles literally ■■■■ himself and burst out crying and blubbering and asked me not to kill him.Kill you? Not worth it I told him. What a total difference to John Parrott who was true gentleman and treated everyone with respect and like you say JMR was a great guy also,we worked with him when there was an engineering strike and we altered the trailer park by the railway lines, getting seconds from Bisons,JMR was in his element driving his crane and caterpillar and we had some laughs for the week we were working there. But nothing stays the same and every day is a day nearer death, especially for me looking after two houses and two wives. DONT ASK!!

:open_mouth: :open_mouth:

OK guy’s, sorry for the confusion but the 16th August has to be changed, and the new date is 20th September with no more changes, there are a few reasons for the change, but it has to be done to try get as many as possible together, holidays and other family reasons have stopped some drivers being able to be there, this includes myself not being able to be there because of my racing days still stopping me because of dates clashing on the same day, so after consulting with Stuart Broughton who has arranged the venue every year before we have decided a safe date for 20th September 2014 this time, so please accept my apology for any confusion and hope to see you all on the 20th September this year at the Green Man, Undercliffe, Bradford, approx 70 pm. :- Jack Graham   :frowning: :smiling_imp:

Didn’t get an answer last time I tried to call Peter Scollick, I left a message to let him and Ian know about the change, no chance of reaching Tapper he must have changes his number and don’t know about young Mulligan don’t have a contact for him, so will be trying again next week to call everyone, Billy Parky will be home from holiday by then so he’ll be there and Dave Smith will be there too, tell the landlady not to put too much on, remember how much was left when we did it before. :- Jack.
