DRY GINGER:
A Very Happy Xmas to you Jack and all A ONE DRIVERS and Mechanics and staff.

I have great hopes of being able to put ALL the REUNION photo’s and a film onto the website on Chrismas Eve!!! So keep your fingers x’ed

Does anyone remember, just before the Xmas break, we had to take about 6 BRAND NEW 40’ flat trailers over to theBRADFORD DEPOT?
We lined them all up with about 6" gap between them. All nice and neat, went home for Xmas. After the break, and returning to Leeds depot, found Jack going beserk :imp: as some people had removed ALL the “SUPER SINGLE” tyres frome the ALL trailers EXCEPT the outside ones :smiling_imp: Not a very nice thing to find out .

Anyway, I hope you all have a great Christmas.

Stuart, DRY GINGER.

Hi Stuart, have a vague memory of something similar, dont remember if it was Chapmans or aone. I think the trs were parked at a site, just off Leeds ring rd at Farnley, to be loaded with beams from a warehouse being demolished. I believe someone passing had seen the trs up on blocks and phoned the depot. As they were to be moved on the monday they went out on the Sat and replaced the wheels only for them to be missing again when they went on the Monday morn to pick the trs up. :open_mouth: :open_mouth: There was a rumour at the time that whoever took the wheels might have been the ones who rang up the depot.    …Dave

working over new year, catologs out of italy, had to jump start a few on boxing day :frowning:

talking of stolen things, was with the old sparky frank page on the top trailer park trying to get the big coles crane which a one had going,i jump started it and frank put it in gear to set off but was just reving away :unamused: looked around found the diff mising :open_mouth:  .was made of foster bronze

remember the office pc,s all getting nicked,3 week later when been replaced they was nicked again :unamused: keith

Don’t know much about the PCs being nicked, but I do remember the TIR office being robbed in broad daylight, whoever did it knew where the safe in the floor was, in and out in a breath while they had there backs turned.
There were some strange rumours as to who it was, but they were never found, “but then it was when Wilkinson was in charge”. :smiling_imp:  :- Jack

One weekend a tr loaded with some catering tins of corned beef was parked in the loading docks on Fitzwilliam st, sure enough tins of c/beef were soon on sale around the local pubs. Donald Chapman gave out a lecture on what would happen if anyone was caught taking anything. A short time later on a dinnertime someone sneaked into the loading dock office, were Ted( I think) used to have a nap, to tell him someone was climbing into the security cage. On seeing who it was he told the lad to go next door to the police garage and see if there was any police about up for a laugh. Couple of minutes later police car pulls into loading bays, with lights flashing, in time to catch Donald climbing out of the cage with a large toy doll. He tried to say hed been testing security, how they kept a straight face as they gave him a lecture and said theyd have took him to the station but for Ted vouching for him… dave robson

happy new year to everyone

Hi all,…all the best for the New year. Jack theres a blast from the past on page 4 thames traders. Cant remember if its been shown before. Dont know if it was purpose built or one of those 4wheelers with the primrose axle conversion, or one that Cyril had a hand in. Seem to remember hearing of trouble if you bumped kerb as the rear axle had tendency to jump out of holding brackets…dave

You right about the axles dropping out, but only when they ran empty, when loaded there was too much weight on to allow them to jump out, but then Cyril Bean modified them and then they were OK, but they used the Boyes axle before the Primrose, and I think they had the same problem, but he stuck with the Primrose because we used the Primrose trailers, they were 26ft, then eventually went up to 30ft and then 36ft, but only being single axle they could only take so much weight, although we did load with 14 ton which when you think that the units were only 7 ton tippers to start with, a fifth wheel stuck on them, so they were pulling at least twice there original design weight every time we went out with them.
To think almost all the vehicles Fielder had were Ford Traders, “like the one in the picture”, all came as 7 toners, then with extended chassis and another axle stuck on, we could load legally 14 ton, and with a 4 speed box, it was sometimes a struggle, but they lasted and made Fielder a rich man, it was only latter when they tried new 5 speed boxes, untill the D series came out, and then the Ford’s started getting better, but still no powered steering untill the D1000 came out, and then it was like driving a RR, sheer luxury, then we started getting spoilt, and eventually went onto Volvo’s.:-Jack.

Well lads, while it’s still winter, and now the snow is coming down again, and we’ve nothing to do but keep warm and dry watch the box, “watching the weather”, how about some ideas for our next get-together, we have plenty of time, remember it’s only 7th January 2011 the day before my birthday, and we have now the contact numbers for most of you guys, let’s have some ideas of where and when you all want to meet up next time.
Let’s remember the last one went down far better than we expected, the land lady put on a good spread and everyone had a great time, I’m not suggesting we go to the same place, what I want to know is, what you all would like to do and where to go and when, since the last one was such a big success, I’m sure we can make it even better to include your partner’s, so ask your partners for ideas as well as your own, let us know so we can jumble them about and come up with a good place and venue, and go on from there.
Thanks lads, and I hope 2011 is a better year than 2010 for every one of you.   :smiling_imp::- Jack

Just put this on the Longs site anyone remember it?

sorry lads missed reunion hope your all ok back on line now so will contribute a bit more

So you were the missing link were you!, “no wonder we were one short”, well for your sins you can be the first to contribute with your ideas for the next reunion, and dont forget to make allowances for the other half too, where and when will be sorted out when we eventually get some ideas from you all, and also whether you want a meal, Buffet, Barby, hog-roast, or what ever, it’s up to you all to give your ideas, if it’s in the warm weather we can have some place with inside and outside, but if we leave it untill the weather changes it will have to be inside. So the choice is yours, now’s the time to make a start while we have plenty of time in hand, instead of leaving it untill too late.
If we can get a bucket full of ideas we can then shuffle them up get, the ones with the majority votes, and come up with something good for everyone, it’s up to you all. :smiling_imp: :grimacing:    :-Jack.

summer jack saturday then every one should be free to come no work     there thats my idea a bit inside a bit out
