Hi All. As soon as i can get out of the house and up to my eldest sons house i will get him to put some reunion photo’s on the site. For any of you who are on face book all my photo’s are on there for all to see. I think you just need to send a friends request which i will accept and then open my profile and the photo’s are there. For ramone. Tony dayne’s didn’t go to the reunion because nobody knew where he was living. Having said that Lenny Schofield told me at the reunion that he still lived on the East Coast in a village called Atwick. This village is not far away from where i live, and if anybody can confirm this i will go over there and find him,or a phone would good if you sent it in a private message. That’s all for now folks so take good care or yourselves and i will catch you all later. (Alan) :grimacing:

Concrete Limited, later Concrete Northern (Bison) were in Stourton and they manufactured wartime pillboxes and lorries.

Hi there Keith 2, I dont know how long they did Bison’s for but A One had the contract when I started for them mid 70’s, I didn’t do much of Bison’s work because I went on TIR a few months after starting for A One, but I know they did lots of the tower blocks they built all over the country, and lots of it was on low loaders, the floors and beams went on flats, 40ft 50ft and 60ft, the last one I did was for the big Boots chemist shop behind Blackpool tower, I took it with a Mandator, it must have been the worst one I ever drove, the steering was so heavy it almost needed two of us to turn it, but nuff said of that, I went over the water after that trip to Blackpool, and got spoilt with my F88, it was like a luxury matchine to what we had with the AECs Atkinson’s and the rest, then spent the rest of my time trying to speak every language in Europe, and seeing the sights you only see on postcards, especially the Alps etc. :-Jack

Hi Jack, will tell you a sad story about bisons 2mor…bed time :frowning:

first morning i started at a one Brian picked us up in a old land rover,Brian and billy taylor in the front and this lad called mick whittard[son of jack whittard [tubby] in the back, wot job are you going to do when you get there he asked, don’t no wot do you do,sparky he said…well that’s wot i will be.cut a long story short.he was 6 month older than me and 8 month later got a job at bisons on them big cranes and asked if i fancy doing it.no chance can not stand heights, was meger money.he got married same day as me  he want on to a crane company called howden cranes.in 1999 i think, was reading the paper, headlines was i crane had come down in London,3 killed, had come down 400 ft,yes this was my mate mick…RIP MICK …

Hi all. I started at a one transport in 1968 and they had the bisons contract then,at the time i was driving a big J i think thats what they called them. I had to finnish at a one in 1969 due to having an accident in my car and losing my licence,Russel Hutchinson told me to come back to a one when i got my licence back. which i did,i started back at a one about 1972 and they where still doing the Bisons contract when i went back. From that time on they where all happy day’s and i never looked back. PS i didn’t lose my licence through drink driving, just thought i would let you know. Regards (Alan) :grimacing:

Yes remember loading out of Bison, great easy loads. They were not too happy at me chaining slabs down as it tended to damage edges, tried timber under chains, they soon worked loose but it was a load that didnt move much. I remember one load, which was large wedges( would just fit in 8ft cube) of reinforced concrete which had re-bars sticking out of the rear, for oilrig yard at Dunoon on Clyde. After setting off had to keep stopping as I kept hearing noise like loose split rims on wheels, checked re-bars but they were wired up tight. Later on M6 wagon passed me then swung onto hard shoulder didnt think anything till I pulled off at Carlisle and the wagon which had caught up followed. He told me as hed passed hed heard the noise and thought hed a puncture, wasnt till he`d caught me up he heard noise again, it was the re-bar, though wired at the ends. There was enough whip in the middle for them to clatter together, often wondered how many others had also been decieved into thinking they had a puncture while traveling near me.
