I’m sure that same stretch 9s closed southbound at the same time too.

Thanks for the warning.

I was going down that way last night to Burton Latimer from Castleford and there was no indication of the A1 closure until about two miles from the A46 Newark turn. This was about midnight so the road will have been closed for several hours so why couldn’t they have had the matrix signs flashing at Doncaster or further north to pre warn motorists?!!

Because that might have been helpful to someone…

A1 was closed at Grantham on Friday night on my way down from Doncaster to Peterborough, not really knowing the area I just decided to follow the diversion, out to Nottingham, down to Melton Mowbray then back up. 90 Minutes, 50 miles, plus a 45 later I finally got back on the A1, checked the maps on my break, apparently could of just nipped through Grantham, not that I’ve ever been to Grantham so was trying to avoid getting stuck.

Because of the previous complaints, when the signs warned about closures elsewhere, and people winched that as they where not going there, it was a waste of time…

2 low bridges going through Grantham, 4.3m and 4.5m (■■) I think.

Handy if you fit, only takes about 10 minutes longer.

The closure is from gonerby moor(services) to colsterworth (truck stop) if they are working past the grantham\ponton slip, you won’t get on A1.

Best route at moment is use M1, but that’s prone to poxy roadwork’s at night, and closures, typical highways joined up thinking, let’s close both the major N and S roads at same time at night for works, should be fine,

I was thinking it was the one just after the Grantham slip, my mistake, it’s hard keeping up with which bits they’re shutting as it seems every night there’s a different bit.

The road closures around England right now are ridiculous.

I was 14"10’ so would’ve been screwed then, it just really was a long way around, it was only shut for the section that runs along Grantham on Friday night, not sure about this closure though.

We do 3 runs per night from Immingham to Hatfield. Been a pain in the backside lately. Whilst the M1 is an option we’ve been using the A15 from Lincoln all the way down to Peterborough. Certainly quicker than the Melton Mowbray diversion.

After thinking you’ve gotten away from idiots on here you find there driving round in circles in the town you live in ,don’t knock on my door for help as you get told to ■■■■ off , are they still taking on in Canada

You can actually bypass them. Once you’re through the 16 foot bridge, turn left at the lights, skirt round the middle of town and follow it through. That doesn’t quite make sense I know, but look at it on a map and you’ll see what I mean.

Not that it’ll help you for the next six weeks.

Other route, as roadwork’s have moved now, start after A607.

Take A607 to Melton at traffic lights in Melton turn left, take B676 towards Colsterworth.

For future reference

As another alternative route, anyone going from Up North to Felixstowe, or that general area. Come of at Newark head down the A17 to KingsLynn, Then take the A10 south to the A134, follow that to Thetford. Then A11 sth to Elvedon Pick up signs for Bury St Edmunds which will put you back on the A134. Back to the A14 at the sugar bowl (43). It is 7 miles shorter than the A1-A14 route, though it does add about 15 minutes to your journey time, unless you drive it like an old Norfolk (line) trucker, as I did early hours Wednesday    .
