There used to be a long lay by, set back from the main carriageway, southbound on the A1, just after the Boston Spa junction.
When work started to upgrade this section to motorway status, this lay by was closed off and used for construction traffic/building materials.
Now this work has been completed, this perfectly serviceable lay by will obviously not be reopened.
WHY■■?
Just because: “This is the UK and we don’t do any of that European motorway lay by nonsense over here”?
Surely, with the dearth of parking spaces in the UK, shutting off an existing lay by just because the road has been upgraded to a “motorway” is utter madness.
This would have been a golden opportunity to test out the viability of such lay bys on the motorway network.
Of course, the answer from the planning muppets and the highways authority would be: “Parking facilities have been provided at the newly opened Wetherby Services”
I always wondered why they did that to the laybys on the A19 north of the Tees flyover, maybe its because they are close to the prison but they also did the same to the one between the a174 and mandale. I came to the conclusion that it was down to the fact that it had been upgraded to 3 lanes and there must have been some sort of regulation not allowing this, though the A1 layby mentioned above always blew my theory out of the water. Now its been shut I wonder if I was right, anyone know?
the lay by at boston spa was full of pit holes you break an ankle in, full of rats, a dirty stinky food caravan and also to top it of stunk of ■■■■ and diesal… where they used to pinch it at night out of the eyes of everyone.
