I find it hard to believe that this ‘not insured to drive’ crap is legal. Since when has weight decided who drives a truck or not?? So if I decided to come back to truck driving, I wouldn’t be allowed■■?
For donkeys years, I varied between 16-18 stone but then I was 6’ tall and large framed … not fat. (I think the expression is 'brick craphouse?) Now due to the steroids I have to take and sitting on my backside for the last two years unable to even think of exercise, I am around the 22 stone mark ( 135-140 kg) mark. So that excludes me from making a comeback?
I don’t think it’s yet been legally tested and in a society where it’s frowned upon to mock differences or afflictions I.e. ageist, heightist, weightist, having a big nose etc it’s strange there’s this limit.
Now being heavy doesn’t always correlate to being fat, take me I’m 15+ stone 6’ and fit into size 34 keks, trying to get down to sub 14 though through better eating habits and Pokemon hunting, don’t say diet never put that pressure on myself.
So perhaps it’s a good thing having a limit although those unable to lose weight or stuck heavy for medical reasons would disagree.

That is the culture of suing for everything we have developed. If a larger guy was injured because his seat didn’t hold him in place in an accident he would be suing his employer and the truck manufacturer. So they will put a limit on it.
The insurance will state use the vehicle in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. They have put the limit so it has to be followed, if not insurance void.

I forgot, well done to all those who have lost a very impressive amount of weight!

I worked with an agency bloke on Dixons. He was 20 odd stone and snapped the steps off a hired stralis getting in. He fell back and broke 2 vertebrae in his lower back. He set some ambulance chasers after Securicor, Hill Hire, Iveco and his agency. Don’t know how he got on as I lost touch with him

I must admit to losing around 13 stone recently…I divorced her.
Think of the money you saved on grocery shopping & handbags.
Sadly not, as I remarried last month.
Ken.
Nothing new here - back in the early 90s, when I was a TM in the NHS, we gave a driver 3 months to get his weight down.
This guy was fat - the steering wheel was partly buried in his belly while he was driving and I felt that this was a hazard. I spoke to occupational therapy and they agreed. In conjunction with HR we came up with a plan, where he would get three months off sick on condition that he attended a clinic once a week and showed that he was losing weight. Six weeks later he was given his cards.
When I worked in Birmingham, a driver who was quite a bit overweight had a pretty dramatic weight loss - his left leg, after a thrombosis. He never came back to work for me, and was last seen driving a minicab in Birmingham.
I swear the worst thing I did health wise was pack in smoking 3 years ago, I have put on about 5 stone in that time, I don’t drink alcohol, I don’t smoke, it seems I replaced all my vices with eating.
I keep telling myself to get more exercise and eat less (I actually eat reasonably healthy, just too much of it) but just like my Wife and kids I don’t listen to me either

I started at 26 stone six within a month I’d lost three stone cut down calorie in take to around 1500 a day and lots of walking that’s it really now at around the 21 stone mark but at 6 foot 7 tall I’m quite happy with this

A mate of mine is just a little taller than you & he is around 18-19 stone ( although not a full time driver )

I gave up smoking a number of years ago so far not put any weight on
When I worked for Fed Ex in the UK a couple of guys were huge, we had nights out on our contracts, and for one guy the passenger seat had to be removed for him to be able to get into the bunk. Later on both lost their licences due to their weight problems. It wouldn’t happen over here as I see drivers so unbelievably over weight it’s hard for them to even walk, how the hell they can control a truck is beyond me ?
I will admit, I’m a tad chunky. Not huge mind. But know my problem. Lager at the weekend! Get plenty of exercise on multi drop, don’t eat loads, so must be lager. But I’m not fussed.
And before anybody says, I don’t have a drink problem. People with a drink problem go to meetings.

Well done you! Keep up the hard work
Higher capacity seating is available… just saying
I’m gonna chip in even though I’m not particularly overweight, I’m 29, 6’1 and 18st 2’. I just weighed myself for this post
I’ve got a 3 year old son and since he’s been born I’ve not been back to the gym or lifted a weight at home. Now I’m not using this as an excuse but I don’t get bloody time to go! Yeah sure I cut the grass, do diy and “try” to help out around the house, as us blokes do and if I’m on a bay I try to stretch my legs, but that’s about it.
Now I’ve recently been entrusted to drive an artic, 7 weeks in still enjoying it and no incidents so far, touch wood! Still doing multi drop but it’s like night and day difference compared to class 2, in my experience it was around 80% tail lift drops. And so far in the artic it’s nearly all forklifted off, but if the customer doesn’t have one, they sometimes ask a neighbouring unit if they can lift it off for them. So far I’ve had one or two handball jobs and my weight hasn’t really fluctuated up or down so I guess that’s a good thing. But I do have a broad pair of shoulders which takes the focus away from my 44’ waist! I get asked all the time if I’m a rugby player or if I’ve been in the army, etc. Of course I tell them ‘no I haven’t’!
Sorry it’s rambling a bit, anyway I saw a Stobarts driver on the bay next to me as I reversed on, and he clearly wasn’t the cheerful type as he duly closed his window, in no mood for a chat I see , now this guy was large but I didn’t realise how large til his light went green and he ‘clambered’ out of the cab. He had the steering wheel set as high as it would go and flat up like you do at the end of the day, just to accommodate his large gentleman self! And he drove off with the wheel like that as he couldn’t lower it with him sat behind it, I thought it must take some getting used to with the steering wheel in that position. Now I’m not having a go at our large friend in green, I’m just using him as an example, yeah I may be a little overweight but I’d like to think I’d never let myself go like that. And yes it may be a medical condition etc etc, but this wasn’t discussed so don’t come back at me with that!
Regards
Thats me a bit screw then atm… Better get me self on a diet…
My weight increase isn’t through over eating and take outs, I eat healthy… just a mere case of lack of activity due to a back issues…hoping the pain clinic can give me something that doesn’t knock me out, space me out or feel lousy all the time…
Once I got something to help with the pain then its should be all good

Depends on what they give you it may take a while to get used to them into your system I know it did with me especially the Gabapentine but this should be explained to you
I can do some exercise but have to be careful it also took a while to find my limits on how much & when
Gave up the smokes nigh on twenty years ago - always a skinny bloke, then boom it was like being connected to an airline - six months later and three and a half stone put on…
And stayed on, too
Can I start the chubby/fat jokes yet?
