A woman, a BMW and snow

After shelling out £675.00 for new rubber all round

Thought that sounded a lot.

The other thing I found out was that Kwikfit

Aha, that explains the price

will store your summer tyres in bags for you and refit them after the winter. You then leave your winter tyres with them until you need them the next winter so you haven’t got 4 tyres or wheels cluttering up your garage. I didn’t need to store my summer tyres with them as I have space to keep them, but for £40.00 it seemed a reasonable deal as it includes changing the tyres over on the wheels every time.

Amazingly for KF, that does seem very reasonable, assuming they’re including 4 balances in that every time aswell.

where I grew up on Vancouver Island

I could know your ex postie

At this time of year, after the weather we have just had, finding 4 winter tyres in the right size isn’t easy at short notice. I wanted a known brand as I use my Scudo for work as well as transporting the family around. I really wanted Michelins but had to settle for Pirellis instead. Kwikfit were able to order the tyres and fit them the following day. I wouldn’t use KF for repairs but for tyres they did what I asked. It counts as a justifiable business expense in any case. Losing a couple of days work because of travelling problems could cost me more than the tyres in any case. I rarely do less than £300 worth of work per day, with a day being about 7 hours of work including the travelling. I have just invoiced a job for £3000 for 4 days work. I could use a few more jobs like that one. I get paid per unit serviced not per hour.

AIUI the tyre storage includes refitting and balancing.

As for my postie on VI, I expect not as we had to collect our mail from a mailbox in the post office. There was no delivery service. Also as I left there 42 years ago, I guess any postie that was working then is probably retired or passed on by now. :frowning:
Vancouver Island is about 1/4 the size of England BTW.

Forget about FWD vs RWD and traction control and the like. A bimbo biffed her BMW into someones house and started crying and it was funny

Only a mental midget would find that funny. :unamused: Then again the mental midget with the camera really deserves an award. You see someone in trouble help out instead of being a donkey.

Now then Brentanna, you’re being all Canadian here, it is funny, especially if you were aware of the kind of stuck up tart that make up the overwhelming majority of female BMW owners, in fact it’s not just a little bit funny, it’s very funny, it would’ve been hilarious if she’d fell flat on her arse too

Right then, although it pains me to say it I’m with car… carry… carryfas… Nah, I can’t do it, I’m not putting the words agree, with and carryfast in the same sentance, they will surely come back to haunt me

On a mechanical square bore engine, his theory and science are correct, alter bore or stroke though and torque/power changes.

On an electronically controlled engine you can set power and torque to wherever you want it and you can raise and lower values of either, so even though he’s correct, it’s a moot point.

I like them a lot, but Saab’s are crap, the current one is built on a Vectra platform that was obsolete in the Vauxhall range years ago, they look nice (unless they’ve got that chrome crap around the lights) and they’re different, but from a driving standpoint they’re seriously flawed. They were owned by GM, but I think they got flogged off in the Bail Out fiasco, I remember reading that Koenigsegg were going to buy them, but I think that fell through.

FWD cars with over around 180hp are undriveable without fancy electronic controls and trick diffs, so are 4WD cars, your Quattro’s, Subaru’s and Mitsubishi EVO’s all handle brilliantly, but that’s down to technology, try doing the same in a Mk1 Land Rover, even one with big tyres and stiff suspension and you’ll end up in a world of pain :open_mouth: The simple way is the best way, front wheels steer, rear wheels drive, it doesn’t matter whether the engine is front mounted, mid mounted or rear mounted, that’s what method all the world’s best handling cars use.

Now, having said that, if you want to get along in the snow, it’s FWD everytime, so carryfast, you’re WRONG…As usual

No I ain’t .

The formulae used to measure bhp and torque outputs at any point in the engine speed range are a constant regardless of bore/stroke measurements.

That ‘simple’,‘best’ way of rear wheels drive and front wheels steer applies just the same when the conditions are zb in the context of rwd versus fwd.But rear engine rwd versus front engine fwd just means that one will probably go off the road going backwards and the other will probably be going forwards. :open_mouth:

Curryfart, it is Christmas. For once in your life, STFU will you…

so what wheel drive is a sherman tank then■■?

You’d only have missed it if you have’nt read all my other posts. I was also on artics and drawbars doing night trunks for 15 years and for the umpteenth zb time I was only on the council for 5 years :unamused: which is around the same amount of time as I spent working in the factory at Chubb Fire making fire trucks and then driving them on test etc when I was old enough to get a licence, which, unfortunately for me,only lasted for a short while until I then got made redundant.£110 per week for 40 hours per week plus overtime down to £80 per week including overtime you bet it was a zb demotion. But at least I had a job in 1980 unlike 3 million others.

     Was waiting for the very same question. With all the talk about BDA Escorts and Quattros ,I began to think he knew his stuff so maybe worked for BL or Triumph. The reference to my time testing fire trucks, was actually in the context,of knowing the relationship that torque and power figures have to each other, and the fact that power is just torque multiplied by engine speed with a correction factor thrown in,unlike some others on here who would like to think that they know their stuff. In that context it makes no difference wether it’s a fire truck or a car.But even though I did’nt work for Triumph or Ford (not surprising if you drive trucks for a living not cars) I can also understand why the RWD BDA ■■■■■■ was a much better rally car on snow or loose roads than the FWD SAAB.

hummmm didnt know they raced fire trucks around tracks. It’s not like there is a hell of a lot to getting to a fire and putting water on it.

Is this still going on Christ, furry cart give it a rest

Carryfast:
you have’nt read all my other posts.

Got news for you…

NOBODY HAS READ ALL YOUR POSTS!!

Simply put, they are drivel and take so much deciphering I am sure you will tell us you designed the Enigma machine next.

Just give it a rest, will you?

Rob this is priceless stuff, made my day.Laughed all day and still smirking now.Works test driver for Chubb.FFS you cannot better that.

Yeah they do actually, the Dennis test drivers used to race around the Alpine Course at the Chobham Test Track next to the M3, they could get a fully loaded 16ton fire engine to lap quicker than an XR3i, I’ve been a passenger and also sat in the jump seat of a works Misubishi EVO 6 being driven by a complete maniac and both were just as much fun (and totally terrifying) Clappedoutfool may just be a little bit good at this driving lark if he’s to the same standard as the boys from Dennis, he still talks bollox though

WAs wondering why the firefighters who drive the trucks always llook like they want to race.I have a major fire hall just up the street they are always going.

Now think 38 Tonner 6x6 with a 635 horse V16 Detroit in it and you’ll understand all of my previous posts.

By the way in those good days it was the army proving ground (MVEE) for the British army.

In the context of this topic the comparison and argument was actually between front wheel drive only cars versus rear wheel drive only cars and in the context of a 6x6 it’s not just the steer axle which has to transmit all of the torque, which in that context is similar to the advantage which the Audi Quattro had over that front wheel drive SAAB.Having said that if I remember it right that 6x6 was’nt permanent and the drive to the steer axle could be switched out making it 6x4,which in most cases,on or off road,is enough for a truck.

Gauntlet is thrown by the daft old git.Put me in a BDG ■■■■■■ compared to your choice of Quattro and I’ll watch you in my mirror,on any surface
Now STFU and take your tablets.
