A week on the flatbed

A little job my old boss used to do now and again (when they were busy) was for a firm called Poundfield Products www.poundfield.com
They were 2 miles from our yard, and i did a week on there to a sewage works nr Stoke on Trent, tipping 7.30-8.00am and back empty for another load. This was a few months ago now, when we had the last of the snow, (around March/April time) thetrailer was bought by my old boss especially for this job.

this was taken in Poundfields yard after strapping the load up

Parked up on the industrial estate off junction 2 of M6 at Coventry

Just arrived on site at the sewage works, before unstrapping the load, and yes the ground was clean underneath the snow in preperation for my delivery
If i remember, i was grossing around 39 tons, but with a V8 530 Scania, it wasnt a problen

kindle530 How many straps did that take…?

around 19 i think harry, put 2 straps at the front 2 and rear 2, the middle ones were ok with just 1.
took around an hour and a bit to do, cos we had to put little protectors between the concrete and the straps to stop the straps chafing.A sod of a job when the wind was blowing i can tell you, cos the protectors kept falling off, very frustrating!

Makes me nostalgic for the old roping & sheeting at the old BRS. :unamused:

Luckily the sheets stayed in their special little place behind the side crash bars!

On our old flat beds we even had to sheet up scrap metal to make it stay on////

During the first year or so of my ‘HGV 1’ driving career I did a shift for Sissons of Sherburn-in-Elemet with an old Foden (a right pig). The job was bob-tail to Leeds (Bison IIRC?) to collect a pre-loaded trailer of cast concrete floor sections for a town centre development in Blackburn.

Obviously I had to strap the load and each corner needed the little plastic strap protectors. Imagine trying to keep them in place while tighten the straps; the load was stacked a bit higher than the cab and evry time one of the plastics moved, I had to climb onto the trailer, climb up the concrete pieces and put the corners back in place.

It was windy and chucking it down that day and it must’ve taken me near 2 hours to strap it all on my own. I reckon it would’ve took ½ hour if there had of been two of us!! :imp: :imp:

I must admit i was lucky, in that the protectors only had to go a few inches above floor level…thank god!

marcustandy Probably four hours. There is a saying around kindles way." A booy`s a booy. Two booys is half a booy."

How do you find all these jobs with flash moter`s

I wont go for a job where id have to drive an old banger greek! The motor in the pic was bought for me cos thats what i asked for when i got offered the job!! (it is a 51 plate, i originally worked there for a year when it was new, then went back there at the beggining of last year)Ive had that happen 2 or 3 times, being asked what id like to drive! I do try to keep my motors tidy, and guess ive had a few bosses that appreciate the effort i put in.

Nice pics :exclamation:
Just also like to say that the trailer looks tidy and so does the unit come to that

Sambo, the trailer (Montracon) was only around 6 months old at the time the pics were taken, didnt have a mark on it at the time
