A week on agency

i had a phone call on the Friday offering me a week at TNT Post Rugby 0700 start all week
So we get to TNT get my truck trailer and go to Barwell only too be told i am 6 hours early
anyhow they have some stuff ready so i load 20 “magnums” and potter off to Ashton in Makerfield
as requested. Its a quick tip and no reload is available so i set off back to Rugby.
On the way back the agency ring to say no TNT for the rest of the week
TNT ring about collection in Cov just off junction 3.
Get loaded 8 Mags and back to Rugby.easy day 11 hour shift

Tuesday they have got me into Comag / Downtons Coventry start at 0600 shunting and being general goffer
They have a 1100 tonne day against the usual peak of 800 tonnes
So i am there to help TM keep the waiting drivers sweet. My job liase with loaders and drivers
loads of subbies most know the score but i spend hours walking tween the loading board and various drivers advising how long their delay is going to be now anything from 2 to 4 hours.
I get 3 drivers out of the way by OKing their trip to Sains for breakfast I have their phone numbers
By 1200 the que is getting lower all the subbies are up the road so just a few of their own drivers left
and yes i get to shunt a trailer, By 1500 i,m looking to go home but [zb] happens and 2 trailers to load and shift. That done i,m out the gate i had walked more Ks than i shunted and was sodden knacked,
But all in all a good days work as a one off.

Wednesday No one loves me so i just have the day off and record my hospital radio show,
The Anker BAR (bluegrass Americana & roots music) Anker Radio 1386am serving the George Eliot Hospital Nuneaton

Thursday into Delice de France Nuneaton at ridiculous o clock 0530 start, After the usual checks its 4 drops Atherstone Sandwich factory if only they spoke English. 6 pallets then Brakes at Tamworth 2 pallets in and out 20 minutes then a run up to the Truckers rest for brekky, That done Freshways Wolverhampton 2 pallets it all looked a bit tight and it was. That done a run up to Liverpool for a load to be sent to the Isle of Man via company ■■ they got me tipped soon enough but the toilets were crap
I ring in. Go to Wakefield its a donought factory and another quick in and out job.i have a steady run back down the M1 and knock off at 1830hrs.

Friday another local job White Furze Coventry shunting between the warehouse and the moulders in Nuneaton its a trailer swop job so should be a doddle, First run no problem. On the second run out i notice mid axle on trailers a bit flat. I run into ATS.If its a bit flat they will just bit some wind into it, alas no although its a leaking valve it has to be strpped and they find a wheelnut thats different to the rest which has phoobarred the thread on the stud and to cap it all the another wheelnut is knacked. Valve sorted and 8 nuts fitted a VOR advisory issued i run the 5k to the moulders. At the moulders theirs 3 loading bays. On my first run the FLT driver advised the ways i had to get onto them
bay 1 drive upto to pallets and reverse into location
bay 2 drive into yard and jack knife round gatehouse and then shunt onto fence
bay 3 reverse from road and blindside into space.
I get back to Coventry eventually and head off for my 3rd run out a quick turn a round in Nuneaton and i am back in Cov yard for 1515 hrs and get told that’ll do so its an early bath and 8 hours pay,

Always fancied hospital radio, how did you get into it?

And as for 0530, I’ve usually done half a shift then you lightweight.

Ken.

When I was working for Driver Hire they put me forward for a 7.5T job at Delice de France in Nuneaton. DdF had just moved to the town and DH were finding them drivers for 7.5T and class 2. I went for the interview and what I was told about the job was totally different to what DH had told me, the number of drops had doubled, I had to work saturdays too and the start time was even earlier, now it was 5.30am…

I rang DH two days later to tell them that I was no longer interested, they said Id been successful but I dont regret it. I often see them now bombing around with 30 drops to do. DH lied to me loads of times. Who do you work for?

Variously
ADS for Halfords work
Tag for Argos on odd weekends a hangover from when i had a proper job
and Best for all the rest inc DdF
