A varied week on the agency(pics)

Well what a week it has been. The word is getting out about me and like i always say a good driver will never be short of work!! I get a fone call about 8.30 monday morning asking if i will do some container work, well the last time i done some container work i got escorted off Seaforth docks by three guys in shirt and ties wearing high viz and driving a BMW with a flashing yellow beacon on the roof but i say i’ll give it a go. And i’m off to Bootle to meet the boss in a yard where he is gonna give me the truck keys. I meet the boss at 10.00 am and after him watching me make a balls of reversing my car into the parking slot he seems a bit uneasy, he tells me it’s all loaded up to go to Wallasey (address is in the cab) so i jump up the step and fall off again with my bag,dust myself down, back up and in, start the truck up try to take off with no air in the unit. As i leave the yard i nearly take the post out with the trailer, i give the boss a toot and a wave and he’s in his car with his face in his hands. I think the guy had a lot on his mind.

Unload at Wallasey and back over to Seaforth docks to load up another one going to the same place. Now if you’ve never done containers before it’s a funny old set up, it’s all computerised now and you get given a swipe card with all your info on it, what you’re dropping off and picking up etc. and it’s all done from one of these bays;

and these huge cranes come over you and lift on/off the containers

Whilst i’m waiting a crane comes over me and another one alongside me and they start beeping and shouting at each other. Now the names they where calling each other was horrific and i for one would not put up with being spoken to like that, i lowered my window to listen to them and they where actually shouting a me to get out the cab!! Well i don’t need telling twice so i’m out! Finish my second delivery and i’m finished at 16.45 hrs. Good day.
Tuesday, i get a day off.
Wednesday i get to work with a steel lorry with a sliding roof/curtain combined i forgot to get any fotos i wasn’t there long enough. Start at 9 and finish at 3. Fairly uneventful and easy day.
Thursday and i’m off work again.
Friday, and i’m “leading the pack”

nice bit of kit and it’s auto too. Just a little switch like a light switch for the gears

It should of been an easy day, start at 9am and i reckoned finish about 5pm but no such luck being Friday. It was a 10.30pm finish.
Saturday, 8.30 start at the most well know haulier there is and here’s my truck for the day;

I got briefed at the depot and had to go to a secrect location to pick up the truck and was given an electic fob to open the gates with. A quick look aroung the cab and it’s nice. The regular guy has all his kit in it, cooking stuff,sleeping stuff, about 7 or more family fotos,spare clothes (he seems the sporty type) and he must of known he was getting a scouse agency driver in his cab as he tried to hide this

Any guesses?

Yep, a dvd/video thing and can you see what i can see in the next foto?

Yes! A CB, time to get “Stardust Mick” out!! Off i go on my run to a depot in Reading to deliver empty cans

On my way back home i come across this sign on the A34 and i don’t know why they tell you to do it because all it does is create a big traffic queue

But Slow it says so slow i go, even though i’m empty.On my return to the depot i need to fuel up so i have a quick look around for a diesel card and thats when i lost all respect for the regular guy who drives this truck. Now i know we all have skeletons in our closets but just look at what i found in the cab!!

Yep, his bingo membership card !!! Jesus christ!! Ah well, none of us are perfect i suppose. When i return to the secret yard i can’t turn around in it to park up as everyone else has filled it up. I need to get inbetween the two furthest Stobart trucks

Oh well only one thing for it, the reverse is not the real tricky thing it’s the fact i havce to get out and operate the electric gates with a key fob and they’re on a timer, but it’s the only way i’m getting it in

And it’s in all neat and tidy!!

Well i have a well earned Sunday/Monday and Tuesday off and i was back in this morning. A local council depot driving a recycling truck. I’m in at 8.30 am and the crew have been waiting to go to work since 7am!! But i have to have an induction first. The induction is a 15minute video made by VOSA i think, the one where a guy drives with a baldy tyre and goes to court and then a guy in a white coat shows you how to get in the cab/adjust the seat and mirrors and then check the vehicle over going around the wheel nuts with a small hammer. I’m finally ready and go with the crew to get the wagon it’s a kerb loader

Well i set about doing the checks with my small hammer and by the time i got in the truck and started to adjust things i got a clip around the ear and told to “just drive the bloody thing will ya!” . It’s a nice cab though with a tv on the dash and it’s auto

Our area for the day is Huyton which is a suburb on the outskirts of Liverpool and we’re collecting these things (the small green ones not the big blue ones!)

Now for anyone who doesn’t know Huyton let’s just say it’s not one of the most affluent areas of Liverpool. Look at this

Now where else would you get such an accolade for robbing your first car!!
Another easy day all done and dusted by 3.30pm. Lets just see what the rest of the week brings!!!

Agency drivers don’t have a bad name thats just some old negative stereotype, you know like the one that all northerners are cheery and happy and southerners are all miserable and serious. Take no notice to them!!

very good i really enjoyed that still laughing now :slight_smile: :slight_smile:
