Carnage avoided just …bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51598235

No words required frankly.

The first time I used the toll I was shocked at how much it costs - made the Severn Bridge look reasonable, as it was then.

Wouldn’t go that far when presented with the toll booths though, not that there would be an escape from them down the road.

As it was one of them there flip flops. What would have happened when he reached the toll booths but unable to pay?
Can you still “bump” the tolls when the running money is getting low.
Used to do it regularly on the Autostradas in the 90s

He’s gotta be worth £10ph to an English firm all day long, surely?

I’m guessing he’s had the necessary “two years” experience hasn’t he, after all you’d have took the street furniture along too screwing it like that, if you hadn’t…

What he had, was the guts to go to transport companies, to get a job. What he had, was the guts to drive across borders, to foreign lands. What he had, was the sense not to drag it across three lanes of traffic at the first opportunity.
What he didnt have, was a functioning brain when he spotted the toll booths. He obviously ■■■■■■ up, big style, and deserves his punishment.

I’m just getting a little tired of the snowflakes crying that nobody is walking their door flat with job offers…

I didnt read it like that at all. I read it as the two years experience guarantees nothing. And I think hes got a point.

Totally agree Nite Owl, sometimes experience and complacency can be a dangerous combination.

You are slowly encouraging me to change my signature. LOL.

As for Mr donkey…

If I may, it was a quip based upon the recent amount of threads based upon everything from migration, too employment(myself included there [emoji106]) good old brexit, crap hgv driving standards an all the other colourful topics posted on a daily.
Forgive me if I felt it gave a perfect opportunity for a little mild humour, so I can only apologise if it went over your cross bar.

Regarding your point about, expectations.

Having sent 35 applications on line this week alone, some for company’s over 300 miles away, and being rejected for many… ( insert everything from experience, location, not actually recruiting, silences…)…
I can only assure you that you’ve no need to worry about my standard of determination with regards to finding work, of which I’ve made fairly public on here before and the levels I’ve gone to doing so.

I’d just like to raise the point that the days… (in large)…of actually being able to enter sites an ask are dwindling fast, and Alot of the smaller firms around me are just that, and as mentioned by many alot of smaller firms simply can’t/won’t risk new lads for obvious reason, ooor simply ain’t employing.

As for being a ‘snowflake’…
I’d take that [emoji8][emoji16]

If I may be the 94th reader to point this out mr. Squirrel, sending an online application in this business, is like ■■■■■■■ into the wind. If you have a proven track record, you may get a foot in the door on the phone, but if you have no, or limited experience, the only way is walking into the yard/office, and be ready to go. Have your kit ready. Nothing shouts ‘needs his hand holding all the way’, than a prospective driver showing up, without a hi-viz, boots, or worse, his CPC/Tacho/driving licence (youd be surprised how many (agency)drivers show up for a shift, without all their cards…). Have all your gear. Be ready, if they ask, to go out that day, or early in the morning.

The work is there. Even for newbies. Were I am, Owen’s take new drivers. Keedwells do, as do Stobart and Downtons. But, it is the quiet season. You may have to wait another mo th or so, and if work picks up, so will job opportunities. Forget agency at this time, they have a hard time keeping their regulars in work.

Go knocking on doors. It’s the only way in.
