So sad to see … True Heroes …

Very sad, our william is in the Scots Guards and there isn’t a minute goes by that you don’t think about them, the vast majority of our lads are barely out of school, and here they are being thrust into an environment where they are expected to fight an enemy who are more than happy to blow themselves into oblivion if they can take some with them. My heart goes out to each and every one of the brave soldiers families who have perished. God speed a safe return lads!

This grinds my gears. Young lads willing to sacrifice their lives, for a country that doesn’t give a toss about them. Then when you see chavs walking around towns in designer gear, walking Staffordshire Bull Terriers and smoking spliffs openly in the street. And I do blame the parents. What a difference in society. R.I.P son.

No thank you. It’s an insult to volunteers; quite apart from the fact that 95% of today’s wasters couldn’t hack it anyway.

RIP brave lad .

If National Service was brought back, we may have a better world to live in. A few years ago there was a programme on TV called ‘Bad Boys Army’, where young people who could be considered ‘wasters’ were sent for army style training. It is surprising how many of those young men changed, and some even actually joined the army. Today’s ‘wasters’ would have to ‘hack it’. What the majority of today’s youth need is discipline which the army would give them, with that should come respect for others and also self respect. Those who are volunteers have already got that, and they are prepared to use it for the benefit of others. It is a tragedy that their selfless commitment results in scenarios like we have seen in the last couple of weeks. RIP to all those soldiers who gave the ultimate, and condolences to their families.

  1. why is it an insult?
  2. it will sort the wasters out who we are paying for!

Before anyone asks, i joined when i was 17 years old, and yes i was a ■■■■!, but the army put me on the right line.

So what you’re saying is the government wants to get involved in some zb’d up wild goose chase in Afghanistan and because there’s some criminals in society let’s use that as an excuse to do the job properly the Russian way so we can get thousands of conscripts killed for nothing instead of hundreds of volunteers.

If the country was really under direct threat then you’d get your conscript army but,if I had any, there’s no way that I’d ever want any of my kids called up for something like this type of Vietnam type hearts and minds bs when, assuming that we’re really under threat from the place, then the job could be done by just using strategic weapons in just the same way that Vietnam could have been.

However you’ll probably get your conscript army assuming that we (rightly) end up at war with Iran and it all kicks off with us,Israel and the US facing a united front made up of Iran, the Arab States,North Korea and probably then Russia and China.

But war is just hell, there’s no glory in it and it isn’t something that anyone should be trying to paint as some kind of positive good thing when what anyone should really be wanting for their kids is to live a peaceful life without ever having to put on a zb uniform on or carry a zb gun into battle against anyone. :unamused: :imp:

Very true Vern, couldnt agree with you more.

Such a waste of a young life,I find it quite unbelievable when reading the date of birth.1990 doesnt seem that long ago to me.

A little of topic, for which I apologise. But I only found out recently, that a mate of mine died whilst in service. He was in the Marines and they won’t let on how he died. I lost touch with him years ago. I even e-mailed his unit and visited his grave. Would like to know how he died. He was a bit of a rogue before he enlisted. So dunno if he died an honourable death. It all depends on your definition of ‘right line’.I think the same type of logic applied when I was at school where it was obvious that being working class in a high unemployment environment usually resulted in the typical stereotypical bs calls by the Daily Mail readers of the need for ‘discipline’ and being chucked into the army being needed for all of us regardless in that case.Luckily for me there was no national service as there had been years before so I was free and sensible enough to tell the army ‘careers advisers’ (modern day press gang) to shove it and save all the discipline bs for those who need it assuming that being a statistic in somewhere like Ireland then or Afghanistan now is your idea of ‘the right line’.

I was working class from croydon and buying clothes from a second hand shop.

I joined because i wanted to get away from all that, not because of war, but to get away from what was going on around me. Now i worked from the bottom to get where i am now.

But let’s not hijack the topic about our love life and let’s remember a lad who gave his life for this country
