First time posting but been reading through your posts for a couple of weeks now and picked up some good pointers.
So I was reading a post Friday night about being pulled over by DVSA and all the fun and games that come with it. I was reading it thinking “oh, I’m glad I’ve not been pulled and don’t drive adr yet so less likely to, maybe I’ll be lucky and won’t happen for a long time to come”.
Yesterday morning I roll into work to find I’m dumped in someone else’s wagon. I give it the usual once over and set off for what is looking like a long day despite requesting a short to keep within WTD hours. Make it about 40-50 miles without incident when suddenly a DVSA car pu9lld in front of me (like a nutter) and pops the follow me sign up in his rear window display. My jaw drips and the ■■■■ twitching sets in as I realise what’s happening. As mentioned in that other post, the mile trip to the checkpoint felt like the longest mile of my life.
To cut a long story short, I spent a good 20 minutes bricking it thinking they’re bound to find something wrong with my tachos or a vehicle check I missed (only been driving commercial for 5 months). They eventually came back with 2 tickets for the boss regarding repairs. One for an abs warning which thankfully I had spotted and reported and another for damage to spray suppression and I got off without so much as a stern or questioning look.
Despite feeling chuffed to have got away so lightly I couldn’t help but wonder if I’d have still been pulled over had I not read that post. Most likely, yes of course I would, but who knows, maybe there is a curse? [emoji12]
I’ve been driving for 11 years now,I got pulled over twice in the first 6 months of driving I have never been pulled over since…
Being pulled in for a check is never going to be something to look forward to but it’s not as bad as some people make out either.
On the 3 or 4 occasions I’ve been pulled into a check point they’ve always been polite and friendly, the last time they did a thorough vehicle check but I still haven’t had my records checked
Hmmm, would that ADR incident be me?
Well mate, like me, you have now lost your virginity!
But it didn’t turn out bad did it?
Yes your boss now has some paperwork to do, but like myself, there are no repercussions for you.
So as long as you’re diligent with regards to your hours, truck and load, you can’t really go wrong or have anything to worry about!
Plus i’m sure it helps to do your best to aid the officers in their duties, and being evasive or problematic is only asking for a fight you just can’t win!
Disclaimer: As Newbies we may have both experienced leniency, and therefore escaped the standard severe spanking!
Haha, it was in fact your post I’d read Evil. I guess I have you to thank for being pulled then? [emoji6]
More so I have you (and the others who posted in reply to you) to thank for the heads up on what to expect and how to handle it. I too went for the naive but helpful driver approach and it certainly helped. When he checked my license and saw class 1 entitlement (I only drive class 2 so far) he seemed to instantly change tack (possibly presuming I was more experienced) until I quickly reassured him of my newbie status [emoji28]
Thanks for the great help you all provide on here for us stumbling newbies with your posts. Keep up the good work and expect to see more of me as I’ll be sticking around. [emoji2]
