ps its better when you go over the mountain by truck
much better scenery and nice and cool in the summer
To go over the top there is a two ton max load limit.
HARRY i went over the top about 15 years ago,
at that time there was no weight limit. and it was
summer but the snow was still laying on the ground
thescenery is fantastic, when you get to the top,
I have been over many times ( Before the tunnel was built ) & the weight limit for transit was 2t. They had a contraflow system for trucks where trucks were only allowed to travel one way at a time .Often I would get stuck at that restaurant on the top for about 4 hours at a time waiting for the ‘green light’. The Tessin side is more spectacular than other side. You are way above the clouds & can see the Alpine road winding its way down into the valley .You didn,t need more than 2t up to go down those steep bends. A lot of people didn’t know about the weight limit.The other good one is Grand St. Bernard in deep winter. Lovely!!!
