Came out of Aldi Atherstone tonight and headed up the A5 towards the 42, couple of miles down I see the blue lights ahead and the past at a crossroads across the top of a hill a police car, ambulance etc, I saw the guys pumping the chest of a guy laid out flat next to a car, at the side of the road stood a smallish motorbike (125 maybe 250) which looked fairly ok, and a Micra sized hatchback straddling the centre of the junction, maybe putting 2 and 2 together and counting 5 but still a sad sight to see, they didn’t seem in a great rush, hope the poor sod makes it
Also had to divert into Bottosford village from the 52 on the way over because of a serious smash which closed the road, no idea how that worked out either.
No idea what went on with what you saw chap but i used to run along the A5 at night when i was trunking for TNT and ive seen some real idiotic driving along that stretch , more so from Atherston back along to the M6 . Real cringe worthy stuff sometimes . The sad thing is its packed with speed cameras but if you know where they are they aint going to catch you .
We had a similar thing along the road from here the other day, I certainly couldn’t do any of the emergency services jobs I’m afraid. Those people never know what they’re going to be faced with when the call goes out.
As Bowser has said, I too used to Trunk for TNT running into the hub at Atherstone and the A5 was never my favourite road. Let’s hope whoever was having the chest pumped made the trip.
I do a ‘nightly’ trunk down to Nuneaton (nightly being I turn around in Nuneaton around 6pm) so I hate that road, the way it keeps opening up to 2 lanes and back down to 1 lane, the 20 bzillion (it’s a real number) roundabouts, random lights that turn red just as you approach etc.
For a major trunk road, they really need to sort it out, the A34 south of the M40 is a good example of what can be done (think how it was…)…
Then they can do the A34 between Manchester and the A500 too
It’s even worse when an accident shuts the M6 and traffic uses the A444/A5 as a diversion. The worst day for traffic in Nuneaton was when the M6 was shut 3-4 northbound and the A5 closed at the Redgate junction, both due to accidents n
I’ve only been driving now for 2 months and i have noticed how desperate people get just to get past you. They would rather have a head on then wait. Or better on round abouts when they either go down the inside to get round you or down your inside, bad move

That’s just general muppets and sadly happens all to often. When I’m driving the 3.5 Tonner it’ll keep pace with any car speed limits easily yet they still see a large van and think they have to be in front.
