traniht:
What we need really is some of you who done France /Spain on a regular basis to give us your idea of the best routiers on our journey from Calais to Malaga and please bear in mind that we are shipping at 08.30 on a sunday arrive Calais about 11.30 so there is the first challenge Sunday lunchtime??
We havnt decided on a route yet could be Rouen Le Man N10 Irun etc or maybe down the middle over the new bridge then via La Junquera or even Paris Lyon and along the South coast. Give us your ideas and we will do our best to try them out.

Take a big bag of sandwiches and a large flask of tea like you used to do in the seventies! Kindest regards Charlie. :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Do you remember those sandwiches Charlie I would still be eating the crusts when I got on the boat to come home. But come on Charlie lets have a list of your favourite places to eat money is no object!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Bloody hell man, that was fourty years ago. The Footballers of course.Maison Carre. Le Parrot Vert at St Malo. All the ones on the N113 from Bordeaux Le Chat Blanc at St Symphorian sur Coise to name a few.My brain has sprung a leak.Richard Goodchild.Where are you? Lets have a few more. There were hundreds on the N10.Regards Charlie

Charlie thanks very much for your paticipation in this request and please do keep them coming. The only thing is that allthough I am only going by memory and that does cause a great deal of problems these days but I do think that trying to eat in the Green Parrot in St Malo may just be a smidging off route :unamused:

Hello Charlie etc etc, Trying to remember the routiers in France & Spain. My brain is a bit up the creek… I know I was a good boy always have a small meal and a glass of water and getting into bed early !!!. Now the thing that worries me now is with Ian & Gazzer going together are they both going to have their own sandwiches?? because Gazzer might be hungry because Ian hides his sandwiches. Also Is Ian using his Bus pass to go to Spain or is he going to hide in the back of the tilt ā– ā– ? If they are driving a Truck (got to be a Volvo) is there 1 bunk or 2 !!! If they go through La juquara a couple of klicks down the road there was a nice cafe, just be carefull !!! I got a dose of willywonkers there lol
Bye for now
richardg

Richard good to have you back we missed you. With ref to the small hostelry 2 miles from Junquera I had a quick bite in there and received a very similar result.I am only hopeing and praying that I got there first :frowning:

Come on GAZ IOW i see you are on line lets have your favourites and you Maggie D and Mappo

Hello Ian mate, you must have been ok, what you forgot , you have to pay MONEY to young ladies lol lol

I dont think any off the Rawlings blokes etc are not going to tell you about routiers etc that they used. They probably think that you are trying to borrow their Shell Bank Card to pay.
Have fun
Bye richardg

Alright then, I must have been in front of you two at (The Ranch) 'cause I came out ok

Now then you will be up against it on the Sunday as not much opens any more at weekends, however lets see if I can jog some memories
(yours and mine)

Le Mans - Tours - Poitiers - N138
Barbra Striesands at St’Christophe and Jack’s at Chateau Du Loir

Le Mans - La Fleche - Saumur - Poitiers
24hr Routiers at Guecelard just south of Le Mans N23, The Millipede at Angliers (has AS24 pump), The Grill at Saumur.

N10 - Vivonne, The Spaniards, New Claudes at Barbezieux then plenty on down to Bordeaux. Don’t know if there’s anything still open
on the Quays these days. South of Bordeaux you’ve got Cestas and Castets in the forest.

Paris - Lyon N6
The Arabs at Champigny Sur Yonne, The old Monkey House at Rosoy, The Algerians at Epineau Les Voves, (burnt down 2yrs ago but
there was talk of rebuilding) did a great couscous. The Swiss routiers at Chelsey N6 Saulieu - Arnay Le Duc, Auxere Sud N6 turn off for
Chablis about 1/2km up on right set back off road, they do a great shepherds pie. Chalons Sud - The Footballers, The Station Hotel, Momo’s
and Norbert and Jaquelines. Tournus - The Glass House and Uchizy. Macon Sud - The Ugly Sisters. Limonest - Maison Carre or Curie is long
gone.

N7 south of Lyon - Chanas (old favourite of yours Ian) Montelimar Sud - Pierrelatte - Lapalud half a dozen along here, all good.

The Barge at Sete and several on N9 including the two at Corbieres.

The Spanish ones you two know better than me, my brain hurts now, I’m old too you know!!!

I’m going down on 19th March for 5 weeks, will hook up with you then

Regards GAZ

You never fail to amaze me Gaz.You just beat me to it.I was just about to mention those and up you popped! well done mon ami.Regards Charlie

Im impressed GAZ that your memory serves you so well and thanks for that. When you say you are going down for 5 weeks anychance of being a little more explicit only the lady who ā€œJust appears through the treesā€ just springs to mind please tell us that you didnt. The only person I know who did was Polly and I dont think he meant to it was just the falling down liquid that took control.

GAZ ive just looked at your post again and Im amazed that you ever done any driving whatsoever no wonder Jamesons had to call it a day

Gazzer help me im exausted

Hi everybody, it seems that most of the good routiers have already been mentioned.
How the hell you guys remember all those place names beats me.
If you go via La Junquera Ian and Gazza, what about that small restaurant at the border just past
the souvenir shops on the left.
If you visit the ranch could you please take my meal card with you cos it only needs a couple more stamps
and its a bit difficult to overnight there doing container work.
I guess Cambrils is bit off route …always found that to be a good,n.

N10…What was that one on the right just before the right hand bend nth. of Bordeax?? Was it the whitehouse??
and the one in the forest, little house on the praire. It was a bit rough but i found the grub to be ok. probably demolished now though.
Several decent ones to choose from in Irun…The one outside the old customs to the right of the exit gate,
or Marigolds down the stairs where the two sisters Itzia and Olatz used to work, or the routiers on the French side of course.

Whichever route you choose have a safe journey…Tony

how about the bakehouse at macon, house wine with your breakfast, not to far off route,
nice to see you all back on again or was it me, ft

Ian - regards she who appeared thru the trees, I’m afraid I did and on a weekly basis for some time!!!

I have to agree with you re Jamies, I don’t remember much about tipping and loading, just going to routiers and drinking and eating a lot!!! :unamused:

Regards GAZ

Ft are you by any chance involved with my globetrotter that is in MC with ECU/Sensor probs if so please stop spending my money so lliberaly but still have it readyy for Monday.Bye the Bye do you remember our trip to Perpignan with Armstrong tanks?
Mappo I dont think I know the Ranch directions please and when you say Cambrils is that the one on the old N340 that had a Shell opposite or did you mean the self serve at Altafulla which I visited just last year and is still the tops in my opinion.
Ref the one just north of Bordeaux was that called the Atlantique? Thanks for all your help keep them coming we are a bit light south of Tarragona onward to Valencia Alicante Almeria Motril etc I know there are a lot but dont know which are good also Irun to Madrid which are the best.
Has any one ever transited through the Pyrenees on any of the passes other than Irun or Junquera maybe via Andorra or the road that drops down to Vich and the other that brings you in to Huesca info please.

I have just noticed that Spit the dog is perusing this morning if thats correct Spit let us know how you are doing nobody seems to have seen you for a while.
Have you finished that elocution coarse you were taking?

Ian you’re spot on with Cambrils, Andorra is well worth a visit but a bit light on routiers.

Irun - Madrid Victors at Burgos is still going strong but try to avoid the Stork Club next door, however if you do succumb
could you enquire if anyone has come across a pair of M&S airtex underpants (large). On second thoughts, after re-reading this,
if they have I don’t want them back!!!

Then there’s The Flags a bit further down.

On the N340 approaching Benicarlo just before the turn off for Peniscola there’s a place we used to call The Dutchmans, always good grub.

Hope that’s of some use.

Regards GAZ

ian, having a day off, i remember the the trip with the tank, got off the boat in the morning, never saw you
again to i pulled into the place to load next day at midday, you were just leaving , took about 3 hours to load, is that
why your trying to find where the routiers are, having spent your life rushing to tip and reload.
I remember going through a small village, straight road, all the locals and officals stood around a memorial to the
left of road, to late to slow down, all the dust came up,
i’m sure their hat’s come off, plus the seal on top of the tank was u/s every time i braked it was coming out,
your truck, no i only do some of the n/heaters in the winter, a/c in the summer and any odd ball jobs,
i did the a/c on your volvo , mc said to me dont worry about the cost, just fix it, i thought well ian never said
that!
