This story involves Ian and myself. We were weekended in Paris and decided to do the tourist bit.Firstly to the Awfull Tower.Losing the toss again with Ians double headed shilling(5p to the nippers) I pay yet again Up we go to the deuxieme etage.(about ten million feet up) Ian leans over the edge to have a look and the shilling slips out of his shirt pocket and over the edge.Ian rushes towards the stairs bleating “Me shilling” and is gone.I look down just in time to see him catch it before it hit the ground. Not even out of breath. What a man.

Were that story about anyone else I would doubt the veracity but knowing
him as we all do, I have no doubts at all.

Brilliant

Now then Traniht.Try and get your act together.I’ve only got one candle left. Will speak to you soon.I’m in hospital in Jan.Little op on me shoulder( All those years of playing with myself have finally caught up with me)

Charlie
Just to keep you up to date. I went in to Soton general 4 weeks ago to try and get me wallet working properly again as it happened they found a large amount of lira was blocking the whole thing up so they sent me home again until the lira had been changed into euros and the shingles or may be shekels had cleared up.I go back again on Tues of next week when they hopefully will complete the operation and I come away with a new wallet that will never loose any cash in the future.
These ridiculous slanderous statements that have been bandied about by certain people who obviously didnt know my generous side I refute with a vengeance as there was never a time when I wouldnt give anyone my last farthing.
If by anychance I am weekended in southampton Hospital I wish everybody a very good christmas and a better New Year

Gents.

What a super thread, full of comedic entertainment - great stuff.

Because I was ‘deskside’ at Haywards, I was mostly ‘protected’ from the detail behind the stories but I am delighted that references to venues such a Peter’s etc… the association has contributed to my experiences too.

These days, I still work in the transport field but manage a Group Fleet Compliance Dept.(far removed from what I describe in my CV as ’ the real ’ world) for a dairy company. During recent weeks I’ve found myself reliving what for me were great days, and doing nothing else by encourage friends and colleagues to take at the roundtable.

Huge applause to you fellas, keep 'em coming.

Cheers

Ian I would just like to offer my support at this difficult time for your wallet

I would also like to relate my own experience of your generosity. On many
occasions, having shared a meal with you, you would say, “my shout
lads”, when the waiter brought the bill. This was usually followed by a quick trip
to the gents and on your return you would say how you’d just been
mugged. Never mind we would cover your meal!

You were so unlucky as it seemed to happen every time and I knew how much you wanted to treat us!!!

All the best mate GAZ

Without my IP book anywhere to hand, I cant give any further clues: Whenever the Vet was on strike in Aosta (which was often) we always looked for something to do other than sitting in the Autoporto with the rest of the drivers. Knowing that within 8 hours or so, someone from the following ferry in Le Havre would arrive to find the Vet on strike.

Derek and/or Ernie ventured up the mountain on the San Bernardino side in a tractor to a small Bar/Restaurant in the middle of nowhere, about 1500m. asl. We went up there a couple of times with Ernie, I think both he and Derek had become step family there. Anyone else remember this place?

P7YCE: Yes we had a good time on ASR and the memories are sadly only coming from 3 or 4 of us.

Gazzer I cant find where you picked up the thread ref the IP book etc
As to the restaurant I remember going to one which may be the same or similar with Mick Cairns and Chris Englefield it was approx 45 mins up into the mountains toward I presume the swiss border we arrived for lunch and were served what must have been at least 12 courses of the best food I have ever had, we left I think in the early hours of the following day and as far as Jim Rawlings was concerned the vet was on strike for another day
Whats this new signature thingy Im sure I didnt pay for any wine that I didnt drink :frowning:

Sounds like the same place Ian. Im sure there was a low iron bridge part way up.

If I had my IP book around here I could work out where it was or even have it marked on it. I must look for it.

Cheers! Its all on account, your account!

Of course being one of Jimmy Rawlings blue eyed boys I never resorted to telling outright lies to him re “Vets on strike Jim” I would not have been able to look him in the eye.Obviously Gazzer and Traniht you both became good at it.I’m not surprised he packed it all in.He was not making any profit with you two sitting around and eating and drinking all week.Did you ever do any work? I eagerly wait your replies and excuses.

You’re right about the bridge Gazzer I also remember it but can’t place
the location. I do remember a bunch of us going up there and at the
bridge getting into an argument with a frenchman over who had the right
of way. This ended when ‘Mossy’ walked up from behind and after a
short conversation, the frenchman suddenly and without provocation,
savagely hit Danny’s fist with his chin and then immediately went to sleep
at the side of the road!!

Charlie, Ian lost a lot of time waiting for me in Modane, he knew that I would be heavy with a load of steel, and he loaded with air filters and twice the horsepower I had, being the gentleman he was he would offer to pull my trailer over the Mont Cenis for me,and I would take his. This kind act saved me having to go through the tunnel, I would buy his evening meal and drink at Victors at the top for him, we would change trailers there any carry on. I also had to pay him the transit tax for the Cenis which was £90 every time.
Charlie someone told me the other day that there was never a transit tax on the Cenis, is this true ■■
Regards Richard

Richard I’m sorry to have to tell you,but you were definately seen off.Ian should not have been a lorry driver (nearly said truck then.Wash my mouth out with swarfega) He would have made a first class conman :sunglasses: The times he pulled that stroke he should be wealthy now instead of just rich.Just cosole yourself that you wern’t the first and you sure as Hell won’t be the last.Glad to see that you are staying the course You must be pushing 42 now hey? Best regards Charlie

Yeah there was Charlie, wasn’t there?

Kind regards Richard

Everyone knows its cheaper without a receipt. I’m sure if you pay Ian the VAT element he will then give you the receipt you require.

GAZ IOW. I’ve got some blank Mont Cenis Transit Permits. Will send you a few on condition you don’t let on about my slight indiscretion with that goat in Russi.OK? Thanks mate
