No being frozen is not on my TTd list, I’m planning on spending most of the winter heading to all points south! Just back from Mississippi, before that it was Dallas, a nice 22deg C & I’m going to North Carolina next which should be warm enough, you can poke all that ice & snow, although I’ll get it on the way down & back up of course, poxy stuff makes a black motor really dirty
I blinged up my dash a little, I think it looks much better now, cost me about $100 so far, 1st time in 22yrs I’ve ever put my hand in my pocket for a lorry, but it’s the first time I’ve had a 379 Pete
anyway here’s the dash as it looks now, just got to lose that nasty Daf steering wheel now I’ve seen it’s replacement but it’s $200 & I came over all Scottish, might treat myself for xmas
Good job on that dash, bud. My Pete is a 2003 so it’s a little older
than yours but it has the Canadian classic interior so it has all the
chrome on the dash already and the steering wheel is real leather.
I’m glad to here your adjusting to reefer work ok. I was glad to move
over from flat deck myself. I know where your coming from about
running south now that its getting cold again back in Canada. I am
in southern Texas at the moment with an in-bond load for Mexico
and my last trip before this was down to southern California.
It does make me proud when i think how my wife & kids have adjusted
from the UK climate to winter on the Canadian praries!
Mines a 2003 but it’s got the older traditional dash, it’s still Canadian Class.
It’s a work in progress though, still got a few little bits to get, like the knurled end dash screws, I changed all the bulbs in the dials for red too, it glows nice at night now, but it was a real pain getting to them, hence the knurled end screws for the next time!
The reefer work is nice & easy, had a few early appointments but I just dive back in the bunk as soon as I get it on a dock, evil thing to actually get on a dock though, mirrors are a waste of time & if I look out the window all I see is a stack so it’s a door open job if I have to bend it in, practice makes perfect though!
As for the cold, it’s not that bad at the moment, as you know but it’s on it’s way, I had a road full of ice in Wyoming last week, I loaded Dallas for Calgary & had hours so I run it through, got to Calgary Saturday night, had a reset which somehow happened in Regina which suited me a lot better then went down to Mississippi & the sunshine again, nice…
Got a North Carolina this week, going out Tuesday, I’ll keep my eye out for you, my truck is 354
No need to newmercman in 5 years time when your tonka toy is being recycled into bedpans my old Atki will still be turning heads, built to last in Proud Preston best regards Big Al
Come on Al, bed pans are made of a recycled cardboard type substance these days, much more Atki with it’s timber frame & plastic than my mostly aloominum Peterbilt I think
BTW I like the Pete, it’s good for what it’s designed for but if my boss was to offer me a Volvo with the big cab my Peterbilt days would end there & then, which is pretty much the same as it was in the days of the Atki, just swap the Volvo VN for an F88

At last common ground i.e The F88, I drove one in the early 70’s
L reg I think. It certainly turned heads and was infinately more
comfortable to sleep in then my old Mandator.
