I shall ask my sister and Brother in law. He was a transport manager there, and my sister worked in the transport office. They may have some pictures, they’ll certainly be able to answer any questions for ya

thanks for that degsy

can anyone help me out - i’m looking for any photos or literature about this now defunct firm, well known to anyone who was around in the 70s/80s - i’m
especially keen to get my hands on ANY photos of the special trailers which they ran carrying tractor cabs to and from doncaster for harvesters / j.i.case

if anyone can directly help i’m happy to reimburse you, or even if anyone can point me in the right direction i’d be grateful?

I have some photos of some of AOnes’ Motors, taken in Italy in the early 80’s, although not the specialised trailers you are looking for. If you bear with me for a little while, I’ll try digging them out (have just moved house, so they could be anywhere) and get back to you.

I think Case (now McCormick) are now running their own trailers for carrying the tractor cabs etc. and they have been doing for the last few years. These are mainly low height LHD Volvo FH’s with Mega curtainsiders.

The actual moving of Tractors is now done by Browns from Barnsley and I am sure they also move other parts such as cabs. I don’t know if they took over any of A-One’s trailers.

I will ask my dad and post again. He retired from the Carr Hill plant just over a year ago and he knew just about everybody who worked or went there regularly.

Before he started there he worked for one of the hauliers who had the contract for delivering tractors. Oh, how I remember the days of the early 80’s on trips to Southampton Docks with four tractors on the back of his Scania drawbar outfit!

didnt peter sutcliffe work for them (yorkshire ripper)

Not sure about Peter Sutcliffe, but he had a nice Transcon

My mate had one very similar and got stopped twice for being him :stuck_out_tongue:

Shows that they knew who they were looking for :exclamation:

sutcliffe worked for a firm called clark’s

I have asked my dad about A-One Transport.

The trailers they used were adapted with special racking to carry the cabs and were used solely for this purpose.

McCormick are now using their own trailers to bring the cabs from France. Apparently, the trailers are dual purpose. They are also used for carrying various parts manufactured at the Wheatley Hall Road Plant.

Try contacting McCormicks to see if they have any photos of the A-One trailers. I believe they have their own publicity department at Wheatley Hall Road.

thanks for the replies - i might well do that killsville, i know that john bywater out of dover run some of these trailers carrying cabs for fermec/terex at trafford park but i don’t know if they’re ex. a-one trailers or not

if you do manage to find those it’d be appreciated kate
