Thanks for the reminder about it, just ordered mine form amazon, another must have book!!!

Hi Mat, i trust you enjoyed your latest tour, glad to be back■■?, sent you a PM.
Cheers Westy

now i’m not normally one to blow smoke up anyones arse, but for those of you that like a good read, on this industry of ours, this is the book for you, especially, if your wanting to learn more about those who really did do the middle east runs.
i was fortunate enough to read the draft of this book, this time last year. i met paul for the first time, on a tour we did together, for a year, and after a short while of getting to know him, he trusted me with the draft of the book.
i’ve only been doing the job 17 years now, so missed out on the whole clearing customs thing in europe, and, certainly, have never been to the middle east, with the job, i thought i was clever, making it to russia, but that was only last year.
the book is a great read, by a great bloke, paul is one of those blokes, that at first, doesn’t strike you, as the kind of guy, that has done, all the things he has, i remember the first time he started letting on to me, about the book, and his days, on this sort of work, at first, i genuinely, thought he was winding me up, how wrong i was :open_mouth:
the book is bloody great, i honestly couldn’t put it down. after doing this job, both here and all over europe, i have got abit jaded with the whole industry, and some of the idiots you tend to come across along the way, thats why this book was so refreshing, a real honest insight, by a real honest guy. i tend not to listen to many, good advice is hard to come by, the roosters and kinks of the world, (you need to know them) are very few and far between, i just wish, i’d have bumped into paul, some 17 years ago, when i passed my class 1, his knowledge and advice, would have been invaluable. :sunglasses:
not only has he written a great book, he is also a top fella, who despite his, (many) years, still knows how to have a good night out, and is always looking to have a laugh, and after putting up with him, for a year, i can lay testament to this, you may even get to read about his, and others, antics, in the near future. for those of you that have pre-ordered this book, your in for a treat

Well said Chillistrucker! :sunglasses:

I too, have been lucky enough to read one of the draft copies (twice!). In short an amazing journey, figuritively and literally, from speccy trainee tax-man to the “Grandaddy of Trucking”. It also illustrates the haulage industry, from the 60’s onward, in all its grit and glamour, in an engaging and page turning way.

I’ve known Paul since childhood, (he and my Dad worked together for Tolemans, at Ipswich) and I agree with Chillistrucker about the untypical Trucker he appears to be. After reading the draft manuscript (twice! :grimacing:, it was that good  ) it made me see him in a completely different light and gave me a more tangible feel for the way the job used to be, and a greater insight into the Middle East run.

Well done Paul. I’m chuffed for you mate. See you at Waterstones in Ipswich, on the 4th November, 18.00 to 20.00!

Shoehorn anyone?

This looks like another good read about the M/E job and another heavy day on the job for our postie

I’ve just finished reading another book about the M/E job called Roadtrip Ramatuelle.
In it a Fred Archer driver is asked to look for a driver called rowland who has gone missing in romania for over a month, does any body know if this is the same person?

Here`s a couple of links to order Roadtrip Ramatuelle a really enjoyable read and well worth the money

Heres a couple of pictures that may whet your appetite, hope you dont mind me posting them up
Its been a few months in the making, but thanks to Keith’s photo’s hopefully its close to the real thing.
Your views Paul would be welcomed.

Hi TC,
Thanks for the comments about the book, but that model is something else, looks absolutely brilliant!! Don’t remember them ever being that clean though even when new…looks like old ELU 922J, F88 230, the only other ‘small’ F88 we had was a 240, XRT 584T , I think it was, though KW will know. Trying to remember if that had Balkans-Middle East on front plate…Does Bob Carter know of the quality of your work. and is this a one off or are you doing any on commission. I know I’d love to buy one. Just as a matter of interest I presume you are aware of the TOPRUN.CH site where a lot of the Trans Uk pics are downloaded. Once again Brilliant TC…
Regards Paul.

Just thought I would let everyone know that Paul’s book is available from “The Book Depository” for £12.58 delivered free.
Les. (who doesn’t like spending more than he absolutely has to!!!)
